Koogs, good work. You'll be glad in the long run that you kept your head about you.

Although I'm sure some instant gratification would have felt pretty good too.

Glad it worked out in your favor.

My dad used to tell me "all of us are smarter than one of us" No more true is that than in this case. Lots of great and helpful replies here.

I didn't have one (great reply) as I would be on that guys ass until he died worrying about the next time I showed up.

the just me

Wow Koogs!

This is insane. I commend you on not going out and killing him!
I cannot imagine how you were feeling.
I'm glad to hear things are tipping back in your favour.

You have much more self control than I do. I would have went after either him or his gear. I've got a bad temper about stuff like that though. :p

Glad you're getting your bass back. I know you would have gotten things REALLY ugly if things didn't go your way.

Koogs, glad you are getting it back. Only thing worse than a thief is a thief that steals a musical instrument. Music is sacred, life is more sacred. I am glad you kept a cool head.

any hints on the pawn shop. would like to give a silent cheer for the home town crowd.

It's very sad what some people do for drugs, and i really hope he gets bad karma for doing that to you.
I guess your bass is now even more special than it was before. ;)
You're lucky after all!

When I first read this I thought it was a p!sstake on that Jean Pierre guy, since it sounded like the exact same situation at first reading. Only, this time we didn't have to take up a collection to buy the bass back from the pawn shop, which is a good thing, all things considered. Glad you got your bass back so fast, and you didn't do anything you might regret later on when you're sharing a cell with Bubba.

One question though, did the guy who flogged your bass break into your house, or did you leave the bass at his house, or at some shared rehearsal space? I'm curious how he managed to steal your pride and joy.

Koogs - got your bass back yet?

Glad to hear this has hopefully been resolved - as tempting as it may be to get physical in situations like this - I think you did it the right way. How sh1tty would it be if you got locked up and the scum who stole your bass was walking around free?

OK...My baby is back in my hands. My police buddy went to the pawn shop, filled out the complaint form with the owner, got my bass, and brought it to me at our band rehersal spot. Funny....my bass got the police escort!

The bass and all of our gear is at our drummer's house. He has a huge garage out back that we practice in. We have access only when the drummer is home as it is locked up. The guitar player was there practicing there on Monday (not a rehersal day), the drummer walked into his house for a drink and that is when we think he took my bass to his car. Few hours later, the guitarist left. The drummer did not know my bass was taken. Not his fault at all. It was pawned on Monday night about 8:00....then I got the texted on Tuesday from this idiot.

Obviously, he is no longer with us. He did not show up last night at practice (imagine that) and his gear is still at our practice spot. Some people have told me I should take it and what not. I will not do that. That would put me in the same category as him. I am taking the high road on this....under the advice of several people...to hurt him in any way physically will only land me in the clink (jail) and I don't need that. So, that is done.

I will get pics as soon as I can. My Internet is down at home and I use a friend's computer. I should have them up on Thursday....

The owner of the pawn shop was very very cool about this. The bass is not needed for evidence. I stopped by his place to thank him and we talked for quite a bit of time. Turns out...he is a EBMM fan, but not a player.

So, all in all, I am happy I got my bass back. I pulled some favors to get this done quickly....and it is good to know I have friends in the right places....LOL.

Drugs are bad.....now that I have calmed down...I hope he gets help and comes back to reality. He is too young to get wrapped up in that garbage.

You guys/gals are awesome....and believe me, I took all the advice given here to me seriously....I was planning on spending some time....that was for sure.

Great!

I want to add something, now that cooler heads have prevailed and, most importantly, you have your bass back.

If it were me, and I happened upon our friend in a dark and secret place.......I'd put my arm around his shoulders and talk to him about consequences.

Once, when I'd just talked to one of my guys about consequences (and he was lying on the floor in order to hear me better), my boss said, "For that to have happened, someone would have to have seen it."

One of those memorable moments from my youth!

Congrats, Koogs.
