... or otherwise believe in the power of positive thoughts, the time has come for me to request the compassionate focus I've witnessed in awe here in the past.

My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago. Two rounds of chemo were ineffective, so her oncologist recommended a clinical trial through M.D. Anderson cancer center in Houston. In the 6 weeks between her second chemo and the time it took to begin the trial, it progressed rapidly. She began the trial, but soon faced complications, and decided to discontinue it. Her doctor told us that in all likelihood, hospice care would soon follow. That was a week ago, and today, due to the continued progression of her condition, she began at home hospice care. She's giving up - she's been through hell, particularly in the last year. This morning, she said to my stepfather, "wouldn't it be wonderful if I could just fall asleep and have it be over?".

I was there with her last week. We moved my wife and two boys there to be with her, and I had to come back to Colorado to work, and continue looking for a job there, hoping to get back as soon as possible. But based on today's situation, I'm going ahead and applying for family medical leave (FMLA), and getting back there just as soon as I can confirm that if I leave tomorrow, I'll still be technically employed.

At this point, we're hoping at the minimum for a merciful time of it for Mom, durign this phase. And that's my request. For those who are compelled (and I know that not everyone is, and that's perfectly understandable), please pray or otherwise invoke some good thoughts, however brief, for my mother. She's a wonderful woman.

Thank you so much.

Robert,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope the FMLA pulls through for you and that your mother's pain can diminish. Your family will be in my prayers, and I'll bring it up with others in my church.

Take it one step at a time

I think that any human being who is showing as much regard for his family as you are is amazing. What ever positive thoughts and wishes you need , that I can give to you , are yours . Please know your whole family is blessed by the actions you are demonstrating. Your children are very lucky to witness what it is to be a Man.

Robert,

Cancer claimed my father when I was 12 and one of my very best friends a few years ago. I will keep your mother, Sue, in my thoughts and prayers. I send you and your family all my best wishes and love. We are all part of the same family on this little planet we share.

Robert, I will certainly be praying for your Mom! I live in Sterling, about an hour and a half from you and have Sundays and Mondays off. I am also a Christian pastor too. If you need me to come down to Denver on one of my days off and pray with your family, let me know.
God bless,
Jay
