If you could only have one guitar, would it have a trem or not???

I know this most likely depends on the music you play, but I was wondering how many people had the need for one.

Trem, cause with a Trem if you decide NEVER to use it, it doesn't matter, it's still a bridge, but if you decided to use it then, well...however you can't do that with a non-trem. With the EBMM vintage trems, it's like having a regular bridge

I actually sold my last guitar cuz it had a tune-o-matic bridge I liked that one but I used to own a jackson with a low profile FR and I really really reeeeally missed the insanity:D

I love Floyd Rose trems but when I really need to concentrate on my technique I usually avoid the bar completely or play a non-trem guitar.

I learned on a hardtail guitar and by the time I got around to buying a guitar with a trem I never really got used to it. Any guitar that I get with a trem I use 5 strings and screw the claw down all of the way. So I basically just turn it in to a hardtail. One of the things that caught my eye with my new Silo is that it was a hardtail and I didn't have to mess with a trem.

fogman,

I love my trem. I'm not a junkie.. I could live without it, but I would really miss it. I don't use mine for crazy stuff too much.. mostly just for subtle effect. And I use it A LOT in that capacity.

Even if I don't use it all the time, I must have one. I prefer having it and not using it than not having it and feeling a burning desire to use it. I do use it every chance I get though. Plus, I tend to prefer the tone and the neck angle of a guitar with a trem.

Put me in the Whammy Freak Category! :)

Obviously, my JP's have the trem.....but, I used to use it WAY to much which really was an excuse not to practice the hard stuff....I mean, I took the easy way out with the trem and just made noise.....none of my JP's have the bar attached which makes me play.....and Lord knows, I need the practice.

But, I have found I can live without it. Now, if JP decides to go with a hard tail, I would be all over it. My next one will be without the trem......either a Morse or Axis SS...... :D

So far all of my current guitars have them, although the SS is essentially a hardtail, I have it tightened down and removed the bar. If I need a trem for something I have the Petrucci or the EVH, my new Morse is being ordered in a hardtail configuration.

So I have one if needed, but could probably live without one.

So fog, is this the last thing you need to dwell on before ORDERING a guitar!???!?!

As has already been said, I'd rather have one and not use it, then not have it and want it one day. Besides, I'm so used to the Floyd, other bridges just don't feel right when I rest my palm on it.
