In fact as far as the trem choice goes you haven't one, you're stuck with a full FLOATING trem.

I should've added to my post, that if a trem isn't floating, it's worthless to me.

May sound harsh, but only being able to dip in pitch is useless to me as it doesn't sound very natural.

I can live with our without 'em.

I love my hardtails. I love my EBMM trems- both floating and non. I'm not crazy about my Floyds anymore because they're such a hute PITA to deal with, clean, tune up, etc.

But one guitar? Jeez ... I don't think I could have just one ...

Had one on my Ibanez. It was kinda useful, I used it for vibrato and pitch bending, not too much dive bombing. Changing strings and tuning up was a major pain, but the biggest reason I don't like them is that I like to play along with CD's on my stereo. Not all recorded music is tuned to concert pitch, so re-tuning a Floyd to match the record is more pain than it's worth.

Well as much as I like those floating babys I do apreciate a hardtail, cuz if u want to change the tunnings or drop the E.... well is a living hell in a floating bridge, but in a hardtail is a bliss

I Highly recommend Strap Locks. There now foggy dosen't have to start a thread about that one.
I know what your thinking:
Sometimes I use a pick and sometimes I use my fingers. That's not even an option on an EBMM though.
If you are standing while playing you should use a strap. Try to get one that almost matches your guitar.
I am no help on wether you should go for the hardshell or ball sack. I see advantages to both.

I use mine for subtle bends and nuances so I like it, but let there be no mistake that my axis hardtail has better sustain and crisper notes, is it the hardtail, not sure but it does sound better, with that said my silo and supersport are trems, not floyds and not floating, i dont do either, so fog if your starting with one guitar get a flat trem guitar where you can use the trem but you can drop D tune in one turn as well, thats my advice, I do have an SG thats a hardtail as well and it serves its purposes, thanks for listening -

First choice - no trem
I love the feel of strings on hardtails and the way the strings bend and those that are not bent stay at their pitch, and since I do break strings rather often, the fact that all the survived strings stay in perfect pitch. (and I can change the broken string and tune in about 2 minutes.

Would like to have the same guitar with trem though, even if I don't really know how to use it, I do "hear" some things in my head I would need the trem for.
When thinking about trem guitar I allways think that I would block it and then only occasionaly take the block out.
If the money wasn't an issue I would have the same guitars with and without the trem.

I've been thinking about this ALOT lately. Been playing for about 20 years and I've always abused a trem. I'm addicted to it so much that it keeps me from being a better guitarist. It's my crutch, when I get stuck, I whammy. I notice that if I play a hardtail for a few days, I play better. My rythem is better and search for notes rather than a squeal.

I truely have an addictive personality and if there's a trem, I can't stay away from it. It's more of a fun thing than a music thing, for me. My main guitar is out of commision since I'm refinishing it. My backup is a basic HSS hardtail. In just a weeks time I'm getting better at playing since I made a decision to live without a trem.

Even though I love a trem and will miss it, I'm getting into playing more since it's kind of new to me. I'm learning the fretboard. We'll see how long this lasts.

That is why I removed my trem bar......the practice for me has increased 10 fold!

Well...

Since the Luke only comes w/ trem and if i could only play 1 git, that's the one I'd play. Make mine trem.

Having said that...I never even put the bar in and keep the bridge flush against the body.

And having said THAT...every time I hear really good whammy playing (Jeff beck, Luke, Satch, Jdouglee, etc), I really wish I could play like that.

Having said that...I'm addicted to forumite JDOUGLEE'S cd "Potato salad".
If you guys like fusion playing with great horns, keys and percussion, this cd delivers bigtime.

I don't use the trem on my Luke, in fact I have all five springs in it and it's sits tight on the body. I can't remember the last time I had the bar in. I never could do the dive bomb theatrics with my Floyd equipped guitar anyways.

After playing a floyd equipped guitar lately, and also a few other floating trem guitars, I could never play a trem guitar. Its so much hassle and the like for essentially motorbike noises! I always do vibrato on chords just with my fingers. Much more natural and tuning is never an issue.
