Hey,

My friend's looking to buy a new bass, and has his sights set on a P-Bass. I've been trying to convince him to buy an Ernie Ball, but can't really come up with any good arguments except that it sounds great, and the quality is exceptional.

Can anybody tell me the tonal differences between the P-Bass and the Stingray so I can inform him about both basses before he goes and spends his money? Thx.

I can't give you info on tonal differences, but I would stubbornly argue that your two arguments are good enough to persuade by!

1. Sounds great: Of course someone would want a bass that sounds great! However, it's subjective so you can't really be accurate unless you mean "great" as in "great for the style my friend plays." MM basses have good and pronounced low ends, but higher notes fade out a bit. However, if your friend would take time to play with a MM bass on display, I'd bet a shiny penny that he would love it and find a sweet spot for his style.

2. The quality is exceptional: This is expected of EB MM basses and shouldn't be pushed aside as a side point. The quality is exceptional! As stated on a previous thread, Fender manufacturers pump out tons of guitars and basses everyday so they're bound to be great mishaps and flaws on those, as many have witnessed and atest to. However, EB MM only makes a fraction of what Fender makes in a month and the quality and innovations on their basses are too good to consider a minor point in shopping for basses.

These two points of yours are great! If your friend is unwilling, you must take him to a guitar shop and force him to try out a MM bass. ;) Then your friend will know. Haha
