well, honestly i don´t use the tone-pot on the luke. and i remembered some guys had a luke I and a luke II and beside the trem/floyd thing they said it was the non-existent tone-pot. that makes the luke I a little bit "more alive"...
i LOVE the sound of my luke - but you know - it is the endless search for the "perfect tone"...... i like the emgs in the luke because they can give you almost everything you want - the perfect allround-gigging-machine. so it has nothing to do with the emg-pickups.
i disconnected it on one of my other guitars - i just don´t know how it would be with the emg´s / luke.
Yes I have, It improved the tone (more sparkle), cutting the wires to the tone control and raising the bridge and neck pickup (shim with foam, when holding the E string down on the 22nd fret, I have 1,5 mm gap between string and pup's) made a huge improvment soundwise,. More low end, the tone just shines and sparkles, wet and alive (it felt dry before, and lacked low end). I was stunned by the difference it made! You don't know what you are missing. This is the best mod ever IMO cause you don't have to change any parts.
Haven't tried it, but I doubt you'd notice a different removing the tone control on the Luke as it's active. Shouldn't make any difference to the preamp. If in doubt, call EMG and they'll tell you for sure.
