I remember the programme well, but not this particular episode. There was a fair amount of innuendo but this seems a little out there.

Apparently it was a spoof made by the cast in 1978 for their own amusement. It never aired at the time, but was included in an industry christmas video. It was finally shown in the late 1990s in some TVs naughtiest blunders type programme, but wasn't correctly attributed as a spoof.

Shame. Still funny though.

I remember watching 'rainbow' when i was younger. Wish all of the episodes were like this, incredibly funny. :D :D

dllloyd is quite right. It was a spoof.

I spent most of my working life in the TV industry including Thames TV who made Rainbow. Each week the various TV companies in the UK used to exchange trailers for the following weeks programs. Then someone got the idea of doing some spoofs for internal consumption at Xmas. It just grew from there until it got out of control and was stopped. I saw a lot of them, very imaginative and great fun. Somebody somewhere has a whole cache of them hidden away no doubt. I used to have some from the early 70s on 2-inch quadraplex (Ampex) videotape but no way to play them any more.
