Just got back from my 2 weeks in California.
We started off in San Francisco, which is where I had my first Music Man experience of the holiday. I found a great music shop on Haight St and played my first ever Stingray 4 and 5 HH basses. I fell in love immediately. There were also Sterling HS and HH basses on the wall, but I had to go and check out the tattoo and body piercing shops in the vicinity too...as well as all the 2nd hand record shops.
A few days later we were in Monterey, which was not nearly as nice as San Diego or Santa Barbara or LA but it had a little music shop in which I played a Sterling HH (wow). I went to look at the oher basses on the wall, and in between all the fenders and Ibanez and other malarky, I spotted a Music Man 25th HH 5 string! I was blown away to say the least. WHAT A SOUND. It is absolutely beautiful in person, the attention to detail was exquisite and the playability (and I'm no 5-stringer) was incredible.
Pity I only had $300 on my person, but the guy said he could knock off $1400 if I wanted it there and then. I declined, obviously, as the money I had was the last bit of cash I had left in the world.
In San Diego there was a band busking which reminded me VERY much of me and my brothers band...3 people, double bass, guitar and a lute (we have a kazoo player instead) and they even played songs that we do in a similar vocal style...I was amazed. As soon as they broke into 'Me and Julio' I just absolutely loved it.
I spent about 30 minutes in SLO, passing through. It was lovely. Sort of a pilgrimage for me I thought.
Anyway, I love the states. The little things...the short wide buildings, huge roads, Denny's, unnecessarily big cars, surfers, rednecks, beautiful girls, 'Have a good day', american flags everywhere, the roadsigns, just everything. I will live there when I am a bit older.
Thankyou all
Zak
