Just got back from my 2 weeks in California.

We started off in San Francisco, which is where I had my first Music Man experience of the holiday. I found a great music shop on Haight St and played my first ever Stingray 4 and 5 HH basses. I fell in love immediately. There were also Sterling HS and HH basses on the wall, but I had to go and check out the tattoo and body piercing shops in the vicinity too...as well as all the 2nd hand record shops.

A few days later we were in Monterey, which was not nearly as nice as San Diego or Santa Barbara or LA but it had a little music shop in which I played a Sterling HH (wow). I went to look at the oher basses on the wall, and in between all the fenders and Ibanez and other malarky, I spotted a Music Man 25th HH 5 string! I was blown away to say the least. WHAT A SOUND. It is absolutely beautiful in person, the attention to detail was exquisite and the playability (and I'm no 5-stringer) was incredible.

Pity I only had $300 on my person, but the guy said he could knock off $1400 if I wanted it there and then. I declined, obviously, as the money I had was the last bit of cash I had left in the world.

In San Diego there was a band busking which reminded me VERY much of me and my brothers band...3 people, double bass, guitar and a lute (we have a kazoo player instead) and they even played songs that we do in a similar vocal style...I was amazed. As soon as they broke into 'Me and Julio' I just absolutely loved it.

I spent about 30 minutes in SLO, passing through. It was lovely. Sort of a pilgrimage for me I thought.

Anyway, I love the states. The little things...the short wide buildings, huge roads, Denny's, unnecessarily big cars, surfers, rednecks, beautiful girls, 'Have a good day', american flags everywhere, the roadsigns, just everything. I will live there when I am a bit older.

Thankyou all
Zak

Hey Zak. Sounds like a very cool trip. I didn't even know you were coming. Although I don't live in San Diego anymore (may be moving back, though), I would've tried to convince you to make time for a visit to Colorado.

If you like Denny's, you'll love Waffle House. :)

And Robert, I actually plan on Colorado next time, which will be next year sometime.

Glad you enjoyed it over here... really fun to see what is memoirable for a non-native.... Denny's! LOL... But did you go to one at 3:00am.... you haven't lived until you've put down a Grand Slam at a time which is indistinguishable from "the night before" and "the morning after". :)

Can't wait to see the pics!

Ooh...sorry about the Taco Bell introduction. Definitely NOT Mecian Food.

Glad you enjoyed the visit! It's intersting to hear a fresh perspective...reminding us of the things to be thankful for.

My Dad spent a few years in the UK in the early 60s while serving in the Air Force. He'd still like to go back someday and take my mom with him to visit.

He ejoyed telling me the story of his arrival, and getting on board the top level of one of the double-decker buses--sitting down in the seat and looking up, seeing the sign that read "Mind your head." (vs "Watch your head" here ) So he smiled and thought to himself, "How quaint..." and promptly whacked his head when he stood up to exit.

Never been to CO, but hear it's gorgeous.

Looking forward to the pics!
