Ive tried to obtain a more treblely tone ie: AFI, Rise Against. I think I cant get it because i have a cheap practice amp right now. But does anybody know how i would obtain this tangy tone but still have some bass? I thought about it. and I played with hitting the strings harder with a pick and it kinda got the tone but it took away from the note. and then i thought so more and maybe they use a octave pedal? I dont know thanks for the help.

Have a stingray or sterling? you could try picking closer to the bridge, and boosting the mids. and on your amp, dont have the lows on 11.

ive got a good trebley tone ... ill check my amps eq when i get home and let you know how i have it set ....

here's a guess for now: I use an SVT Classic head
lows and highs crancked up ... mids in the middle
the "super low" button is pushed in ...

DR HI Beam strings might be my secret ingredient ....

on my sterling i use the PUP selector closest to the neck about 94.6% of the time
on both stingray and sterling i have all knobs at 10 ...

as far as playign goes ... yup its all about the pick :) (dodging purist bullets) and play pretty brutally between the pup and the bridge but almost on top of the pup.

anywho ... i havent looks at my head in months but the dials havent moved so ill give ya eq settings when i get home.

most importantly ... get DR HI Beams or some other bling bling sounding string

Cool. I play an SR5 and I find that if i have the PUP (im guessing thats pick up) selector away from the neck i get more of the Jazz bass tone im looking for. and i do pick really far back its easier and i get more of a consistant tone than over or in front of the Pup

I guess I have a rancid type sound thorugh my GK head and I run everything flat on the Amp except the 3-filter buttons (rb400) I have the middle and right on to bring up the Highs.. I know the older AFI Sound (Mommy I want a Mohawk, ect) and this hits it!

I agree on the mids down though usually when I have to use the EQ on my SR4 I max the low and high and turn the mid's knob about half way..
