Has anyone got a Silo spec with the trem set up for upbends as well as downbends?

Mine came with all 5 springs fitted and I've removed 2 to have the trem softer.
I noticed that with only 2 spring fitted in the conventional "V" shape that the trem floats from the body easily enough for upbends , but then the action is very high.

So, has anyone got their vintage style trem set up with 2 springs and if so , is it just a case of lowering the saddles until I get the action right ?

Any set up suggestions welcome...

pedro - I don't have personal experience since I prefer the non-floating trem set-up like my Silo Special came from the factory (although I think it has 2 springs in the V-shape even though it doesn't float).

That being said, the Luke comes with the vintage trem set up to float. Here is a link to the EBMM Guitars FAQ on the main EB site:

http://www.ernieball.com/site/faq_guitar.php

Scroll down and there are set-up instructions for the floating trem on the Luke, which should work the same for your Silo Special.

I set mine up with 2 springs, with 1 1/2 steps up-pull on the G string. Works great. Did have to lower the saddles a bit, yeah. Stays in tune great!

That's not how I interpreted what he said. It may not be set up to float as it comes from the factory, but it's just as "meant to float" as any other vintage style trem. And it works like a charm.

And a stoptail is something altogether different.

Ratter is right..They come from the factory as non floaters (except for the JP and Luke), but you can remove a spring and make it a floater. It's the same bridge(except for the JP).

jon - thanks for the correction, I was at work when I posted. I haven't pulled off the back plate on mine, but you can see the hooks for the springs on the trem block from the back. I looked at mine last night and saw the 3 springs.

Though I think the "rare" Piezo Lukes come from factory non floating. Different saddles than the reg luke. And highly recommended. I wish Steve Morse played one!

FWIW, my 30th Anniv MIAC Silo spec definitely came fitted with 5 springs. must be the "Super rare 5 spring" limited edition Vintage white thingy...... :D

maybe I could put the excess springs on ebay under "collectors items"

:D :D
