Trems...MM? Floyd?

I seem to remember threads raving about the Ernie Ball trems. I never paid much attention to them but after starting to play some stuff with one (on a Jackson...sorry...don't have an EB yet) with a floyd, I'm not overly crazy about the floyd. I notice that the Axis now comes with a floyd.

Why the floyd now?

What I don't like about my floyd equipped guitar is that during full tone bends and hitting an upper note (Think the ending solo to Hotel California.....it's done all over the place), the upper note is so far off due to the bend that it's pretty obvious that it's not right. I'm thinking of blocking off the floyd to only allow a push down....and no pull up....then cranking the heck out of the springs and maybe adding a 4th (I've got 3 in there now).

I"m hoping to pick up a sub1 tomorrow (fingers crossed) and have no idea what the trem is.....but got to thinking about it.

The axis has always come with a floyd, from the time it was the EVH until today, you may be thinking of the Axis super sport, which has the EB vintage trem.

If the SUB you're getting is not a hard tail model, it will also have the EB vintage trem.

The method you suggested for dealing with the floyd on the jackson will indeed solve the problem you're having, since it is a problem inherent to a floating bridge, not to the floyd rose (you'd have the same problem on a Luke, which has the EB vintage trem, but comes from the factory ith it set to float.) The EVH and regular Axis both have their floyds set up non-floating.

wouldn't putting heavier gauge strings and 5 trem springs do the trick?

Not sure what you meant either on the Axis FR?

By the way, I play "Hotel California" (note for note I might add), and it comes off perfectly on my Axis. What did you mean "full bend"? Did you mean the bridge begins to rise off the body? If so, tighten the springs just a hair.

Added note, I play in a Van Halen tribute band as well, and let me tell you, the "Eagles" songs (if played correctly) are just as hard, if not harder than the Van Halen tunes!!!

They are "absolute" superb guitar players, incorporating subtle pre-bends, unorthodox hammer-ons and pull-offs, etc. . . , just excellent!!

I just wished they played MM guitars!

This is sounding very promising (plus the seller just sent me his address, so I won't be driving for 2 hours just to a city with no contact info...).

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I just have to keep learning about guitar construction and adjustment. I'm an engineer, so have no issue with analyzing things to death...or deconstructing something to see how it works. Makes a lot of sense that another spring and block can likely solve the issue.

TNT....I'm really getting "back" into guitars and understanding a lot of things from when I first learned to play back in the 60's and 70's when the guitar studio had "strings". Everyone was allowed to buy a semi-hollow electric guild and string it with a 16 high. It's only since the beginning of this year that I discovered that other strings existed and even meer mortals can bend strings!

I'm sure not saying that the Eagles do easy stuff. Since picking up the guitar in January, Under the Bridge by Chilis was the first full song I learned. Besides a million little rifs, I'm working on Hotel California and Panama. I'm stubborn so I'll get Eddie's stuff eventually but found Hotel to at least be doable at my level. When my wife recognises what I'm playing...I know I'm at least on the right track.

Hope to be openning a "bought a ball" thread tomorrow.

And, boy can I relate to that, ". . . if my wife recognizes it. . . . . ."!!

Oh, the countless times I used to rush into where she was and say, "honey, check this it out!" Her response, ". . . is that supposed to be?. . . ."

Yeah, she's a sweetheart (and plays bass too) and still my biggest "fan", however, at this point in my life she is MORE critical now than ever of my playing!!! I can't make a single mistake if she's watching
