Tried a Jazzmaster today...

...and goddamn, I loved those P90 pickups! Actually, it was the first time I played a P90 guitar. I fell in love with the sound and the feel! Everything that's desirable about singlecoils, just meatier!

Here's the best thing... I've got an Albert Lee MM90 coming up in a few weeks, that I've ordered without ever seeing an AL with my own eyes. Now my expectations are through the roof!

I've been playing lots of surf/rockabilly-stuff lately. You think the AL will do the trick, or would some other EBMM instrument work better for that kind of sound/music?

I don't think they're P90's on a Jazzmaster, not sure but I think that the P90 is a Gibson creation.

I know that the pickups on a Jazzmaster look the same but I think that the magnets, wind pattern etc are all very different

Yeah, P90s have the best sound ever for alot of styles where humbuckers are too much and single coils aren't enough.
too bad there are no noiseless p90s ;[

Yeah that's what I thought too. I think the Jazzmaster's pickups are a unique type of pickup in themselves.

I was really surprised by the MM90's.
I'd already had an sss AL for a year and then got the MM90 version.
Boy they still have the twang - I also love rolling off the volume and/or tone - boy you get some great sounds.
