Before i get my Luke i want to upgrade the old amp. The Fender Hot Rod just isnt making my ears ring like it use to. So i tried both the Triple XXX and the JSX both where amazing i just dont know which one to get. They both sounded great and had the tone i was looking for but the JSX is $200 USD more than the XXX. What do you guys think?

JSX is just awesome!!! That is definatly what I a getting for myself when time comes. I'm gonna get the head with a 2x12 cab w/ vintage 30 speakers. Go with JSX, and post some clips with the LUKE so I can hear the tone, since that is what I am waiting for currently :D.

The Peavey JSX is a great amp. I love mine. Way more versatile than the XXX. Apparently Peavey isn't good enough for some of the players on this boar but if it's good enough for Joe Satriani...

The thing is...add a couple of hundred bucks to it (sometimes not even that!) and you're in Mesa, Soldano, or VHT territory. Get one of those and you're done. Get a Peavey and you're always looking to upgrade from it. If you think Satch uses stock JSX amps exclusively I've got some ocean front property to sell you!

But for less than the JSX, I'd look at the Carvin V3. It's a killer amp.

I've heard good things about the JSX, l've also heard some bad things as well, but l have tried out the Triple X and l liked it, l might have to go try out an JSX to replace my Mesa.

So what? Why does the JSX have to cost so much less than those other amps?

You're basing this on what factual information?

Again, have you facts to back that up, or did you read it on the internet? Joe's JSXs are stock.

I've owned both of these amps. The Carvin V3 is a $900 fizz box. Both of the ones I had in my house were in fact.

I sold my Mark IV to buy my JSX and would do it again. Many amps have come and gone in my house since I got the JSX but the JSX is the only one that I've kept.

It's a great amp. Period.

The JSX is awesome and is super versatile. I also own the MESA Lonestar Classic and Special which are awesome for blues/roots applications. The MESA's offer excellent build quality and tone. The JSX is solid, great build quality & tone, but Peavey's as well as many other manufactures don't match up to MESA's build. The price maybe similar, but remember the JSX combo is a 120 watt 212 and the MESA combos in that price range are typically 112s. The JSX is more "British" in character compared to the XXX. Satriani basically re-voiced the amp for his style/tones. Joe used to play the Marshall 30th anniversary amps, but supply has been down since Marshall doesn't build them anymore. If you prefer a more "Recto" tone, the XXX maybe better. It definately has more gain.

FYI: Musician's Friend just put the Peavey XXX amps on sale. Checkout the audio/video demos on Peavey's website.

i dont like how people judge brands by their name. Peavey for me has always been a pretty reliable company. It is marshall and mesa fan boys that get me angry. People who think just because it bears the name it is gold. There are many companies producing quality goods that many of us dont know about. To judge a amp or anything for that matter on the idea of brand is just plaing stupid

I tried a XXX and thought it was "ok" - I tried the JSX and thought it was pretty good. I tried a Mesa DR and couldn't stand it. I tried a Soldano SLO-100 and fell in love.

Everyone's ears are different, try the amps out and decide for yourself. Don't let me or dave or tom or susan tell you what amp is right for you, let your ears tell you!

If it's a question of $200 or so, sit on it for a few weeks, then go back and flip the price tags around so you can't see them. Close your eyes and do a "blind" test. Let your ears tell you.

Did I mention "let your ears tell you" ? :)

Pete you are a true sales man.;)

A price of $200 doesnt bother me but paying extra just for the name just sorta makes me wish EBMM made amps (again)

Funny. I had a Soldano. Turned out I wasn't done! ;)

I am an old fan of the 5150 amp. Think it is now the 6505 or something? Great amp with an axis.

Jonny

The 5150 is a great amp, a very good plug and play amp, but it's very one dementional, pretty much what you hear is what you get.

I tried the JSX head and didn't quite like it.. plus it was just a little too noisy for me. So, I tried a Triple XXX head and bought it because it sounded great in my application (Jp6 main guitar playing original rock music.)

Before the Peavey's I tried Marshall JCM2000's, Mesa Stiletto, Line 6 Vetta, and Orange. None of them worked for me (and money was not an issue).

It's completely subjective, so in the end you'll have to satisfy your own ears. I still sound like me whether I'm playing through my Roland Micro-cube or my Peavey Triple XXX half-stack.

If I buy another amp in the next decade, I think that Tommy and Beej have me convinced to try a Guytron!
