Question Tru-Oil smell

So I Tru-oil'ed my Sterling HS neck about 4 weeks ago, and it still has the smell of Tru-oil....How long does the smell generally last?? I put on a couple of light coats....wiping each of them off in the recommended time frame (5-10 minutes), and then did an additional light coat, which I left on...for about 2-3 days. I then lightly buffed with ultra fine steel wool. Then I used some casey-wax...left it on for about 5 minutes, and wiped it off. Smooooooth as could be...BUT...it still has a light smell of the Tru-oil.

In my experience, only a couple of days max.
How i did mine was 0000 grade wire wool, followed by the tru oil, wipe on, rub it in well then wipe off (spending about 5mins with the oil in contact with the neck)
Then wax, pretty much the same, rub it in well then rub/buff it straight off etc .

I left one coat on for a couple of days because I wanted some sheen/shine on the neck. I've read that the smell is usually there until the tru-oil is completely cured or dry. It's been dry at least 3 weeks, which is why I'm owndering why it still has a scent.

Never thought there was a need to have to leave it on that long ?
Ive only had to do the "Birchwood Casey - Tru-Oil & Wax" once, an that was on a Stingray that i brought used that needed some TLC.
The instructions that come with it are for its intended purpose, to treat an weather proof a "Gun Stock" to protect it from the rigors of the outdoors but works great on keeping you bass neck in great shape but just need to apply it differently.
Ill go have a look an find the thread i started last year (that ware i got all my information from anyways!)

Thanks Danny. I know the standard care instructions(just going for something different)...but there are guitar builders/modders who actually use Tru-Oil as a gloss finish....in which they apply several coats, leaving each one on for a couple of hours before applying the next. I of course wasn't really going for that, but wanted a little more of a shine/protection.
