Truoil smell...

I gave the SR5 neck a truoil treatment yesterday. I'm wondering how long the smell of the oil hangs around?

I must say, even though there seems to have been a bit of silence about this issue, there have been private meetings and conference calls all week and I can tell you, we were all quite concerned.

Right, Casey Birchwood gunstock oil, which near as I can tell is mostly tung oil. I'll try to get some decent photos to post of the neck, but really it just looks a little shinier This was done to my 99 SR5 because the neck was looking a little dry. I also noticed that after playing for an hour or so tonight, I can hardly smell the truoil on my left hand -- a marked difference from the first few nights after the application where after playing it, it was as though I was wearing Casey Birchwood truoil for men!

So pass along to the conference that all is well

Hmmm, mine didn't smell for long at all. I let 'em sit overnight and that was it.

I buffed it out a bit, though....maybe that was the diff?

I think it is also dependent on the temperature and humidity level. I did a neck during the summer and it was dry and sealed in a couple of days.

I did two recently that took about two weeks to get that completely done feel.

I am wondering if maybe there was too much oil used. You don't need a whole lot of it, and after a few minutes wipe it off, then use the wax. Was the oil followed by wax?

Yep, there's a thought - too much oil. I just put it on my finger and apply it....that way I don't have to worry about The Flaming Rag Problem.

Don't take much.

I applied the oil per the instructions in the EB FAQ. I applied a small amount, left it on a few minutes, buffed it off, and then applied the wax. I let the bass sit out a few hours and then returned it to its case. I suspect I should have let it air out a few days before putting it in its case, though. However, as I mentioned, the smell has really subsided.

Yeah - I left mine sitting face in on guitar stands in a room by themselves, so the smell dissipated quickly, I reckon.
