I picked up a 2001 JP over the weekend. I'm absolutely in love with it, but there's one thing I'm concerned about:

The truss rod was totally unscrewed to the point it was touching the neck pickup. Even with it being loosened this much, there was barely any neck relief.

Is there a way to "reset" a truss rod? What if I want to get more relief at some point? Should I return this guitar?

I will contact customer service tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

First thing you can do is lightly pull the neck forward, from the headstock. It's possible the truss rod is binding in the neck. I've had that happen and pulling the neck slightly puts the relief back.

It's also possible that the neck has issues. Even if that's the case, there are a few things that can be done to take care of it. Definitely start by calling CS for advice.
