Trussrod Adjustment for SUB??

sorry to ask something thats probably been asked a million times but im on my way to practice and wanted to adjust my neck real quick.

ive got a 4 string SUB and wondered which direction you turn the adjustment wheel to tighten/loosen tension on the neck.

also, i was wondering if the subs have any graphite rod or strenghtening things in the neck. thanks yall.

Assuming you've got a right-handed instrument, you turn the wheel towards the E-string to tighten. I dunno about lefties - theys mysterious.

so would tightening the trussrod bring the headstock towards my body, bowing the neck backward and flatter, or would it cause it to bow forward, up and away from the body?

Tightening it bows the neck backward and flatter.

Loosen the strings first, turn the trussrod adjuster but not more than a quarter turn, then bring the strings back up to tension, then check the action. Go back and do it all again if necessary. Take your time if you haven't done this before. You can easily break the rod or strip the threads on it, and then it's a trip to the repairer, and probably no warranty.

There is no need to tune down before adjusting the truss rod

thanks for the info guys. the setup info on the ernieball.com FAQ was helpfull but no one had been completley clear about which direction tighteninig the trussrod would send the neck. i need to losen it up a bit.

also, does anyone know the exact allen wrench size for the saddles on the EB 4 string bridges? im assuming the subs are the same as the rays and the others since the bridges are the same, just not stamped EB.

and jongitarz, thanks for the info, and since i see that youre a setup guy im not gonna question you heavily, but like many of these other people ive heard that youre suppsoed to detune your strings for any neck or bridge adjustment: why do you say different? in a way it makes sense because then the neck is reacting to less quick tension changes ( like those of detuning then retuning an entire set of strings) if you jsut leave the instrument in its standard tuning
