You mean my Dargie's.................

Or Green and White...(Jets fan).

................Are not Jets basses!?! I thought those were Pearliod "Football" Inlays!

This guy is the king of "Used Car" type marketing to promote his "Saints" bass.................Probably not illegal, but pushing it to the limit!

I think the fact that he calls it a "One Off" is where the problem is. I don't begrudge anyone for trying to sell their bass (I have been know to sell more than my share of them). I don't even blame him for the Saints references (lets face it, that is a great play on the market). But to say it is a One Off is a plain lie. Is it rare... now that the color is discontinued, yeah... but is it one of a kind, I think not (but then again maybe my True Gold Bongo is by his logic). This is the type of thing that gives sellers a bad name. I mean most of us here picked up on it but what about those "less informed"???

Well, let's face it, it still could be the only SR 4 HH produced in that exact configuration. Those bright orangish yellowy colours seem to not have had too many friends. According to Dan, my Desert Gold SR 4 HH, black pickguard, rosewood FB, with MHS was also a "one off".

I think those that are into collectibles know exactly what they are looking at, and the others buy it either for the Saints reference or because they like the colour.

I asked him about this bass on ebay - he said he ordered it as a Tribute Bass because of his love for the Saints. It is a "one-off" because no one else ordered that combo. I bet someone has a true gold SR4HH-MHS who could easily add a "black oyster" pg and total f-up his unique marketing position!

As a very happy saints fan and bassist I am pretty well offended by this ad.
Yeah the Saints finally did it. So the scalpers have to come in with their cheese.
Dude doesn't even live in Louisiana!
Besides the bass doesnt have black hardware or an ebony fretboard to make it really black and gold! Or Fleur de lis fret markers.

I asked for a copy of the documents that it was a one of a kind bass. We'll see.

You'll have to let us know what he says.

This is what he replied when I asked him about it:

Thanks for your imput. I am going on what I was told by My Music Man Rep !!! I ordered this Bass myself, I know what was said on ordering. I ordered it as a NOS Bass. I also asked before this Color was discontinued if there was another ever ordered in this combination. I was told No ! That is what I based this on, and the fact that since I ordered it. I told my Rep I was making a Saints Bass !! So it is as close to a one off as I can tell.

I hope this didn't upset you, I was not trying to Mislead anyone.

Thanks again for your email.

Sincerely,

Still sounds like BS.

Also....isn't it supposed to be a one-OF??

I gather he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Still a sweet bass....reminds me a bit of my Trans-Gold SR

Still, a very rare, sharp looking and great sounding StingRay.
I hope somebody buys it before I feel the need to... ;)
eh, still I think "very rare" is overstating it. Black Onyx sterlings are very rare.
This is just a color that wasnt popular enough to stay in production with the matching headstock. It isnt as if it will sound much better because of the finish?

There are 150 Black Onyx around. I've seen about 5 coming up for sale during the last two years. And they don't sound any different than a regular Sterling either. I think you are confusing "collectible" with "rare".

Maybe he's thinking that since the serial number is unique, it's a one-off.

This is my favorite part...

"I was asked Why ??? When it was Ordered, I answered: “it was for the Football Team, I believed the Team, would have a good year”, and boy was I right? It was ordered just 4 weeks into the Football Season, it was delivered 2 weeks before the SuperBowl. I had a Gut feeling that it was going to be their Year."

If this guy were really authentic, he would have bet on the Saints in October to win the Super Bowl instead of trying to make money on a 'tribute' bass guitar. Duh! Maybe he bet the over and has to hock the bass to pay the bookie.

or maybe he thinks since its a bass thats ordered during the year of the superbowl win and in the colors of the saints that it is a one of a kind. and maybe in that sense it is indeed a rare bass. unless those color combinations are flying off the shelf.

i think the guys got a neat selling point. but im sure theres another one of that color lurking out there. maybe in the hands of some guy that doesnt like the saints but likes gold...a lot...

its kind of like having a big 2010 on a bass in the colors of the saints.

but definitely not the only one in existance.

How was he able to order it directly from Ernie Ball? Don't you have to be endorsed to do so or can anyone order directly from them?
