I'm looking for a small low wattage tube amp kit. (head) I'm pretty good with electronics (soldering, circuit diagrams). Anyone know or have build any kits out there if so what one would you recommend?

Hi Larry,

first it´s good to know what do you want?
Do you want a classical tone or do you need a modern higain sound?

There are lots of good kits out there.

There are quite a few 18W wattage Marshall kits- ones I can think of are Ceriatone, Weber, GDS and I'm sure there a ton of others. Also the 18Watt board has schematics and forums from guys that are building 'em. There are some other ones for higher wattage ones- Metropoulos Amps has a few 50W and 100W kits. (Their 100W Plexi Super Lead kit sounds deadly).

Love to hear how you make out with this.

I really like the design/simplicity of this one.
AK01 - SE-5a guitar valve amp kit

But the only thing keeping me back is well they are across the pond so to speak. I e-mailed them regarding shipping to USA. So I'm waiting to hear back from them on that if it works out I'll be heading to RadioShack to pick up some solder. I'll keep you guys posted.

Ha Ha LMAO. It is ironic isn't it. It was very interesting listening in on the conversation, though. Didn't know the kits existed til I heard Beej and Dave talking about them yesterday.

Metro-Kits are way too much wattage for what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a small low wattage amp. I was going to buy a Orange Tiny Terror then I figured there has to be a kit that is similar to the Tiny Terror. Plus I enjoy messing around with things of this nature so its win win.

Weber has some interesting kits this size. The Smokin' Joe kits comes to mind.
Surplus electronic stores sometimes have *cheap* tube PA's that can be hacked into good little amps.

The Ceriatone 18 watt kit is good, but you won´t get the higain sound as from the tiny terror.

If you´re familiar with electronics you could add a gainstage to get more overdrive.
