I have a gig on Saturday, there isn't enough time!

Just run the amp @ 60 W with the inside 6L6 pair and move your combo speaker plug from 8 Ohms to 4 Ohms. You can get new tubes later.adambilz said:I have a gig on Saturday, there isn't enough time!

PeteDuBaldo said:Sometimes... I play everything from superclean to high-gain with the guts in the middle. I use a mix of Sovtek & JJ preamp tubes to get sparkling cleans and aggressive gain, and the power section is Sovtek 6L6.
Here's a rough clip I'll be hitting the studio with in a week or so. Polishing up the sections now. It's a decent representation of my "style" of playing. I used AL pos 4 for rhythm cleans, y2d bridge for rhythm w/ gain, JP6 bridge for bluesy leadwork, and switched to the JP6 neck for tapping lead.
Midi Drum warning!

As long as all four tubes have the same color code, you should be fine. But just to be safe, take the two outside tubes and put them in the center slots.adambilz said:I've been running it like that just as usual. Can I just take one from the outside and replace it with the burnt out one in the middle?
candid_x said:One other thing. If you don't have a balanced triode tube in your phase inverter spot, you should, if you want the most from your amp.
PeteDuBaldo said:Candid,
I use a Sovtek in the V1 & V2, with JJs in the rest. I've got a list of tubes to try out in each slot for mega tone, but I just don't have the time to try them all out right now. When I do, I'll post a clip of the difference.
PeteDuBaldo said:Preamps are 12ax7 Sovtek and JJ ECC83 --- power tubes are Sovtek 5881 (6L6)

candid_x said:Thanks, Pete. Sorry to bug you but this stuff really interests me.
There’s at least 5 different Sovtek 12AX7’s, so I was curious which you were using. For high gain, their 12AX7LPS is a great one. Puts a lot of meat on the bone and is also low noise, very musical too. I'm pretty sure stock Soldanos use these; at least my Astroverb head did.
PeteDuBaldo said:Sorry I just realized I listed the tubes in the wrong order.... V1 & V2 are JJ ECC83-S, and the other 3 are Sovtek 12AX7-LP
The JJs were cleaner on the clean channel, and more defined on the gain channel than the Sovteks were.
