Hey Spud - I know they're pricey, but check out the Peterson tuners. Best there is IMHO.

This is the one I'd really like to have. For a guitar tech or luthier it's the one..

Spud, I know it's $30 too much but Korg Pitchblack is great. It has a big display, it's accurate and, most of all, it's quick to use. I also have a Peterson StroboStomp which is super accurate, but I used to spend too much time on stage dithering around with it trying to get perfectly tuned. Those bars going up and down are mesmerizing, particularly after a few ales. I use it to set intonation now. The Korg is very sturdily constructed with an aluminum case, but it's lightweight and needs to be velcroed down.

I actually run a korg dt10 and have had no problems thus far. If it broke, I'd get the pitchblack. Well, actually I'd probably get the pitchblack+ but mainly because it looks cooler to me. Anyway, I know when the dt10 was discontinued many folks were disappointed. The other guitar player in my old band had the planet waves one. Traded it in on a pitchblack. The planet waves tuner is still sitting in the used section for, ironically, $59.95.

I didn't know the Korg DT10 had been discontinued :( , shame, as I've been very happy with mine for both my bass and 6-string guitars.
Korg Pitchblack looks like a good alternative

Planet Waves one has a large screen and is pedal based.

J

Hey JD funnily enough I was working in Swansea today and as I often do, I checked out the local music shops (like you used to do in Karama !! ;)).

The salesperson was a huge fan of EB basses and he said that he had just sold the last he had in stock of the planet Waves tuner. He showed me a photo and it looked pretty good!!

I often tell "my people" to think out of the box so any suggestion is a good one now the $60 buck limited has gone south!

I have used an online metronome but never the tuner.

I have a tuner built into my Pod XT but I don't need to use the XT at gigs.

I'm liking the Korg pitchblack at the mo especially the programmable one that stores alternate tunings.

The Behringer TU300 just costs 29€ ...
It's made in China, made in plastic ... but it works.
Personally, I use a TU100 (the previous model from Behringer). It is connected to the tuner output of my EB volume pedal, thus it is not in my signal chain.

IMHO, the quest for a compact portable tuner begins and ends with one of the Peterson virtual strobes. YMMV.

Yes they are very good - however catdaddy made a valid point when he said ... ...

With that in mind I tried one out and it was a bit "busy".
Having seen the Korg and nobody has a bad thing to say about it, it ticked all the right boxes and more!!!

It's floor mounted ( I don't use a rack)
It's got a large display - at my age I need it !! ;)
It's accurate (as accurate as the Peterson apparently?)

Plus I use some alternate tunings that I can programme in.

and for sure I'll do a video clip of it in action and post it on the Tube.

I'm quite looking forward to getting it.
