Hi folks,
as far as I know, EBMM guitars for many many years have only been equipped with Schaller tuners - except for the SUB1 that is.
I have just received a Silhouette Special featuring Grover top-locking tuners which seems strange to me, but cannot really say whether they were replaced or not.
Anyone ever had an EBMM guitar equipped with such tuners as OEMs ?!
Thanks for your input!

Axel

Hey Bill,
thank you for the fast reply!!!
OK, so those might as well have been stock after all...
What does that "metal pick" mean?
I do have sort of metal "rings" (sawn from a tube as looks) under the first 2 of the upper 4 screws and under the first of the lower 2. I'm not quite sure yet about how to tighten the strings there as it seems to be necessary to wrap them around the screw ?!?!? I'm a bit confused here, but hopefully my tech will clear things up :)
Hell, it's always strange when you end up with stuff other than people told you you would get...
Thanks again Bill and maybe you can just give a quick intro on how you tightened your strings with those old Grovers ?!

Hey Axel, how's things mate?

Yep, I know the tuners you are talking about.
My Silhouette Special came equipped with the Grover Locking tuners you described as stock. I purchased my SS brand new in 96 so they must changed over and used Schallers exclusively soon after that.

You have to be careful with those Axel because I had the post snap on me about 18 months ago. I replaced them with the new version Grover mini lockings which I think are the bomb (In other words, they're a great tuner). The new Grover lockings do not lock from the top but internally and IMHO is a superior design to the Schallers that lock from the rear with the screw. Infact, I liked them so much I put them on a replacement Warmoth Strat neck.

However, the tiny screw that Grover's mount with was in a slightly different angle than the one's that came stock on the Silhouette.
So... rather than sitting at the angle it was supposed to, it sits straight out from the headstock.
It looked a little wierd at first but only when I A/B'd it to another EB guitar.
It was either use the same mounting hole from the old tuners or drill another one and have the old hole there as well.
I decided to just use the old hole and have the machineheads sit ever so slightly...
Btw Axel, the guitar should have come with a large metal "pick" that you use to lock the string down with. Make sure you don't lose it!

Bill

Now I know what that massive metal pic was for that came with my EVH! Its been lost long ago, but now I know!
