Ferrari?.......Maybe....I'd lean toward a Lambo...they are more "unconventional"...yet still special.

Gee, I was thinking more like Citroën :p

I'm not a fan of the bongo, but I can understand how people like them so much.

Have you played one? Big difference between the look and sound. I'm glad that EB has decided to explore new things. Gettin tired of the other companies that keep rehashing 60 year old designs.

To me, and this is only MY opinion, the bongo shape wise is one of the best designs. I happen to like the looks of it.......but, that is me. It is different for sure, but not hideously different like a BC Rich.......shape.....just too much happening with those things.....but, to each his own.

Villageous!?!?? Well, here is my description of that idiot.....Dumbasseous!

Bongo's are simply great basses and my band mates flipped at the looks and sound of my bongo's....particularly the Stealth....as of last Sunday, they met for the first time.....hehehhehe

I love the Bongo's shape (then again, I loved my Kubicki ExFactor, I had a Bitch Bass, a Ric, a Steiny, and I still have an Ashbory) Villageous???? So what. It is all a matter of taste. You don't like it, well then that's just fine as long as you don't shove it down my throat. Is the guy an idiot for not liking the shape... nah. He is an idiot for posting it and not backing it up. Nuff said!

How 'bout "Bulbous"? Can we use that to describe the Bongo's shape?

And...you don't have to be an idiot to be bulbous.

(Waiting for someone to offer the counter-point...)

PERFECT!!!!!

My brother used to own one. Wierdly cool, exactly like da Bongo!! Hydraulic suspension that kneeled down like a camel, 2-inch thick rubber pads under the carpets, and a back seat that looked like something out of a bordello. Awesome car. Really ODD in a French kind of way.

For a long time I fought against getting one, no matter how many times Jack would put one in my hands at the Parlour, because of the way it looked. I just couldn't seem to get over it.

I've gotten over it. It's one of the most interestingly designed basses of the last 25 years. And it is like driving a hot rod, has a LOT of power. Since I've only heard them with flats it was eye and ear opening to hear BP play his at the EBMM Open House. THAT'S the sound I hoped it would have and I can't wait to get mine.

Now leave the guy from Poland alone, he's in Poland for chrissakes. Isn't that punishment enough? :D

The funny thing to me is that the only people that I've heard criticize the looks of a Bongo are bass players. Everyone else seems to like them.

Ray, I left you a message. Call me when you get a chance.

In my blues band, the guitar player/singer and harp player/singer are father and son. The father, whom I love dearly, uses the word "bundlesome" instead of "cumbersome," bless his heart.

I have only ever played a bongo briefly..... and my preference was for the sterling.... as for shape - I think it just suffers OMG I can't believe it's not shaped like a fender syndrome... in the end aesthetics are exactly just that... its the sound and playability that matters...

Hey now... my Mom's maiden name is Shalosky (seriously)

But is she still in Poland?

(I'm thinking she made good her escape. God bless her.)

As a young man, I played on a volleyball team with two Polish girls. Never let it be said that I do not appreciate the Polish people. I will just leave that right there.

For a long time I fought against getting one, no matter how many times Jack would put one in my hands at the Parlour, because of the way it looked. I just couldn't seem to get over it.

Now let's travel back in time to the first night I met Ray Duke:

Ah, I was still madly in love with my black sparkle Stingray, Bongos were unknown to man, and I do have photos of Ray playing the black sparkle Stingray, too. Those were good times, good times....and here is Ray's first exposure to the Bongo:

Like, "What the hell IS this?" That was November or December of 2003, I think.

Ain't that funny?
