Looking at that second pic... is JP playing this guitar in only electric mode? (That's my guess based on which jack his cord is plugged into, if the configuration is the same as on my JP6...)

Anyway - I guess I was intrigued more than anything, since several songs in the DT catalog have some sort of acoustic bit to them (Hollow Years, Regression, etc.).
I always play plugged in to the combo jack, just because I might need the acoustic sound at a moment's notice.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question... but is there any advantage to using the magnetic-only jack (provided that you know you're not going to need the piezos during that session)?
(For what it's worth, all of my playing is done with a single (mono) line out from my GT-8 to either a house mixing board or a single Behringer KX1200 amp, so nothing stereo for me.)

Its the lighting that causes the variation in how light or dark the guitar appears. Both are walnut burst.

About the input jack:
Looks to me like he's in the stereo jack (presumably with a stereo cable, which gives him both signals on one wire until it gets split further down the signal path). That's how I run my JP6.. it's the jack farthest from the bottom strap button. The advantage? Both signals on one wire, which can then be routed to different amplification systems down the line.
About the color:
Agreed that if this is walnut burst it loooks WAY different than the pics we've seen so far. I'm thinking this is one of the protos, in the color that John deemed too stodgy for production? Either that or vastly different lighting conditions than we've seen to date.

I don't think it's the lighting, I haven't seen the JP7 ever look that color. Maybe they changed the color a tad, for instance what the BBB Luke looked like for namm, looks a lot different than the BBB JP.

The color deemed too stodgy by JP was the caramelburst used on the Sitrucci, and the prototype used to record Systematic Chaos. For an example of how lighting can change the look of a guitar, check out the July Guitar Player with JP on the cover. There are several pics of the walnutburst JP7. In each pic, the guitar has a different look to it, but its the same guitar. There's also a cool pic of JP, PG, and JS which features the ruby burst JP.

Now Greenwizard is confused! The jack furthest from the strap button on my JP is indeed labeled "Stereo/Magnetic" but the only sound I can get from it is the mag pickups. If I plug into the Mono jack, which is closer to the button, then I can achieve either/both sounds by flipping the switch. Is this an unusual configuration?

No its correct- its labeled stereo/magnetic because you need a stereo cable to access both signals. That way you can send a single cable from the guitar and split the signals further down the chain- a mono cable will get you only the magnetic only from that jack and you need a second mono cable to get the piezo from the other jack if you want them going to separate amps.
