I know this has been tossed around in the past, but has EB thought of ever releasing an bare wood guitar? Maybe an oil stain, but still retaining the bare wood feel? I love that and the Axis would be beautiful like that.

Any takers?

I think it could be cool if it were practical to do most of them as one-piece bodies or two-piece. I don't think it would look so good with three or four different pieces like that OLP JP project. Plus, the basswood prototype of the JP makes me think that a natural JP wouldn't be particularly interesting. An alder or ash JP? Maybe. AL? Maybe. ASS? Maybe, but I think I'd prefer the Natural ASS the way it already is.

I seem to remember some pics of EVH with a completely unfinished EBMM guitar back in the '90's as well?

Quite a cool guitar as I remember.

bare natural AL. yes!!!

You know, with the right chemicals an AL's poly finish will peel off like a sock. Tung oil is dead easy to apply, too. But (from what I understand) it's way too time intensive (in terms of drying/curing time) for any factory to do in large quantities.

Actually, truth be told I'm thinking of doing such a thing myself, if the right AL comes along (read: one that'll sell cheap due to a dinged up finish but no other issues). Of course, no matter how good the job is a refin would pretty much kill the resale value. But that's not why it's done!

I built a Warmoth Strat-style guitar close to 20 years ago (and it was the only one I played for 10 years). I only stained it and finished it with tung oil.

It's oddly EB-like. Birdseye neck, rosewood board, locking tuners, hardtail, hipshot D-tuner. ;)

Didn't BP have a 20th/Silo built for him that was unfinished? i thought that was a great guitar, definitely my sort of thing.

I would love to see a Sport that was unfinished/oiled. That's dangerously close to the JimmyB sig model (obviously lacking the 'no talent' switch) :D

Yea, it was that sweet all rosewood beauty built from one of the last rosewood body blanks available before the body blank ban.
