Hey all:

This is my first bass with an unfinished neck. I know you need to apply
gun stock oil to it, then waxing after. What is the maintenance interval?
This has probably been answered already, but if you could direct me to
a previous thread, that would be great too.

Thanks,

Check the FAQ at Welcome to the Ernie Ball Music Man Company for details on neck care. There's also a video on Youtube.

Having just bought my first MM bass with the oil/wax neck finish, this has become of interest to me for the first time.

I believe that there is no prescribed interval. When it gets dirty, deal with it.

I'm not into the look of grungy wood, so the first thing I did when I got home... even before sitting down to play... was to apply some extra Birchwood Casey gunstock wax as additional protection against dirt (wipe it on, spread evenly, let sit for a few minutes to allow the solvents to evaporate, buff). I was just going to do it until I noticed its presence, but to my surprise there was no buildup even after three coats... so I just called it a day at that point. The neck didn't get gooey or waxy feeling at all. Feels much the same as it did out of the box.
