Off Topic unsung bass heroes

As I understand it from one of the guys that worked with Boston touring (Dana Roun who was their house engineer) Tom played nearly all (if not ALL) of the bass parts on the Recordings and Fran was the player for the live shows...

Peace,

T

Dana Roun has run sound for us many times at Pleasure Island in Orlando's Downtown Disney; great sound man.

Great GUY as well! He toured as House Engineer/Road Manager for Boston, Bon Jovi, and Aerosmith just to name a few...As good an engineer as anyone I have ever known!

Peace,

T

Phil Soussain (Ozzy, Luke) and Neil Murray (Whitesnake) are phantastic players that had considerable influence on my listening and playing habits.

Yes, Neil Murray - he was the one without whom the Live (In The Heart Of The City) album would be a p.o.s...

And yes, Chris Campbell did a great job with The Silver Bullet Band.

Stu Cook, I 2nd this! Btw - l've seen MusicMan players at J.C. Fogerty's late live shows on TV.

And the guy(s) who did the studio jobs back in the 70ies at German Schlager recordings, there were fu**** groovy bass lines...

I don't think that Joe Lally from Fugazi ever gets enough credit for the bass parts created. And he played a StingRay. :)

Neil Murray is great!

Thanks for the reminder on Chris Campbell. I LOVE his playing on the album "Nine Tonight" by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

Mars Cowling: Pat Travers Band

Kenny Aaronson: Stories, Rick Derringer, etc.

Kenny Aaronson is a great bass player

I think he played with Billy Squier

He played with Neil Schon and Sammy Hagar for HSAS and with a killer band for Brian Setzer's early solo album. He's a great player for sure

Speaking of Murrays, don't forget the late Dee Murray from Elton john's band in the 1970s. His lines on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album are stellar.

I always liked Bardi Martin from Candlebox. There first album was not his best bass work but the second one was outstanding. While he rarely played it live, he always recorded with a 78 Sunburst Ray aquired from Muzz Skillings of Living Colour. I know the current owner of the bass and have been trying to buy it for a number of years. JOSH

Double "Lee"

Lee Sklar and Will Lee; both of which are bass players' bass players.

I'll include them as "unsung" because of their large amount of behind the scenes studio work.

However, they both have had a high degree of visibility; Will Lee on Late Night with David Letterman and Lee Sklar with James Taylor, Phil Collins and of course, most recently, Toto.

Fail. Most of those people are all pretty much "sung bass heroes" rather than unsung.

Let's not forget the man who drove the Deep Purple speed machine.

Roger Glover (although I am a Glenn Hughes kinda guy)

I'd have to say herbie flowers (session player who played on david bowie's Space Oddity) is one of my favorite unsung bassists. Actually, Bowie's worked with a lot of great bassists.

Wilton Felder (who played on recordings by The Jackson 5.)
