Hi, I thought I'd run this one by you all just in case anyone has any idea what the problem could be before I get rid of my bongo bass which I love. Unfortunately, it's just become too unreliable.

Having tried 3 different cables, 3 different basses and 3 different amps, I've narrowed the problem down to being a fault with the bongo bass.

2 or 3 times during every gig these days, the bass either just cuts our or goes very quiet. It is easily rectified by pulling the jack plug out of the bass and putting it back in again. However, you can imagine how annoying it is for myself and the other members of the band. I've also tried replacing the batteries a couple of times and like I said, I've tried various combinations of cable's and amps.

It's as if it's re-setting itself, a bit like re-booting a PC. It's a real head-scratcher.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
Dave

Thanks Strummer, I'll pop it into my local dealer. I hate intermittent problems though because I know they'll tell me it worked fine for them.

Really?!?...uh, ok...how about you contact EBMM Customer Service?

Seems like too simple a first step for so much text. Must just be me. Good luck with that.

Oh, BTW, how about posting a few pix of the bass? Remember, NPNB!

I highly recommend EB customer service. They did a bang up job on my SR and I hear good things regularly!

...Had tha same problem with a VERY high end combo amp- Intermittent static; amp cutting out; re-inserted cable and problem disappeared-until it happened again. Not workable. Took it in to the tech for Warranty repair and after a 4-week wait, I was told that nothing was wrong except the contacts needed cleaning.
I can't suggest that your having the same problem, but sometimes that type of problem has a solution that's just that simple.
Take your bass to a good tech and see.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll get a hold of some spray and let you know how I get on.

It's a great bass, 5 string with a matt black finish. When I bought it, I went an 900 miles round trip to a shop that stocked Alembics, Ken Smith's, Fender's, Warwick's and Yamaha's. I spent half a day trying them all and the BB sounded better than any of them. I preferred the neck on a Yamaha bass but the guy in the shop promised that he could set the BB up the same as the Yamaha...... and he did.

It's the barrel jack - the output jack, that is.

Yes, I'm an internet diagnosis expert, I can see it in my mind and tell you with some certainty.....just kidding about that bit, but sometimes it's the obvious thing. The jack.

Easy fix.

Good luck with that.. the Bongo also for me is the best sounding e bass.. it's a keeper. When I see the smiling faces of the band members when the Bongo is in the game I know that I play the right bass - keep it.
