I'm gonna have to forget about this for a while, or it will be all that I think about.

I need to figure out what I'm gonna do to own one.

I'd love to see some photo's from the design stage.

That bass looks really cool, even if it won't see the light of day in it's current configuration.

If the bass and guitar are going to be the same type for the 25th anniversary, does this mean we might be seeing a 3 single coil model? That sounds pretty interesting to me.

Superniftykeen. Me likey.

(Despite the missing string.... :D )

That does indeed look like a piezo bridge.

So the knobs might be volume, piezo mix, and four-band EQ. Lots o' switches to deal with all dem pickup thingies.

I knew in my gut that the 25th would be about electronics in some way. I can't wait to see what it turns out to be!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I mean boooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I mean nice mids a softer high end..................

I dont know if you remember the bongo proto with all the knobs but Dudley likes to start there after we start the design phase I talk about what Im thinking and he incorporates that and hen he makes a proto that gives us every possible combination. From there we identify the strongest and then figure out how to make it work from a user standpoint as I usually come up with stuff that most engineers would say cant be done and Dudley woodsheds and figures out how to make it work.

Like the rocker switches for the pickups....we are considering them. The problem is that lets say you have just the neck pickup on and you accidentally hit the switch you have turned off the bass. While some may love to be able to turn the bass off I think this is a disaster. Can you imagine in the middle of a perfect take or solo your bass goes dead? So Dudley calls me the next day and say "I figured out how to get what you want....If you turn all of them off it becomes the selector for the bridge and middle pickup in series /passive. It is currently my favorite setting.

This bass is been rattling around in my brain for of about 17 years. I had Dudley make the first proto....it was the hot pink 3 single Sterling made in 1992. It just wasnt ready. Then the passive experiment with the SUB. That was just a fabulous passive bass but the market rejected it. The public sent a message to us that Music Man's are active basses. Then the Single coil introductions in all of the basses. Finally the newest version of the bongo Neodynium magnet single coils.

What I originally was going to do was make our version of P and Jazz killers. Or "Xerox" killers. Ive sat back and watched everybody make a music man copy and brag about their stuff. I had this desire to fire on them from their kitchen. IMHO we had the perfect recipe for a single coil that was perfect for either passive or active. I was going to make what I thought a p and J should be in 2008. In the end I just couldnt and didnt want to go that route. Forward is what gear I like.

The magic of the Music Man was the preamp that Tommy Walker did and the Pickup that Leo made. That has been our trademark. I want to pay all the respect in the world but at 25 years I feel that I get to revoice it a little.

The goal with this bass is to be able to reach for the classic tone. It will be there.....but it is about celebrating the mid and bottom with sonic clarity without the super treble dominating it. the vibration and the strings resonance is just so strong. I hope that you cats will get what we are reaching for when it hits the shelf.

So it will be a familiar but slightly different shape it will be active and passive and from there I will keep you posted. The first proto that I hope Drew posts was passive only The second proto that is featured so far is with the passive circuit and the bongo 4 band as a starting point. Dud and I are figuring out what version 3 is going to be at this time.

The Bass will make it's intro as the 25th with a very cool feature that I am not going to show you yet. It will be in a cosmetic combination that will only be available for one year. It will continue from there as a new regular model with all of the normal options

I am going to do something different with this bass too....When it is done Dudley and I are going to take this bass to about five cities and show it to the people and talk about it. Jack (or Erika) doesnt know it and neither does Beaver or Pete or James and Brandt and a few others but we are going to have "tupperware parties" and show it to the diehards first.

If you cant tell Im pumped and am not hyping this up for the sake of sales. If some of the skeptics out there think that this is cheap marketing and viral manipulation let me tell you that these advance showings actually hurt our sales as some people that are considering buying a existing bass sometimes wait and put off that purchase. Im trying to convey the thought process and resultant excitement from my end in real time. We arent curing the common cold or fixing world peace or getting sax players to play in tune...we are just doing what we do and with all the BS running a business this is the heart and soul of why we are here. This is the cherry on the sundae.

It sounds like it just needs the toothpick, and the bottle opener, and you're all set.

The three off switches becoming the passive series position is mad scientist genius. I fully expect Dudley to someday build a bass that will turn into a robot that also builds basses.

So, this is going to be 4 string only? I had sworn off of buying new 4 strings basses, but this is one that will certainly change my mind. Hell, I was planning on buying a 6 string Bongo after the first of the year, but now I want to see where this thing goes. If my new gig goes where it should, I'll be getting both...
