Not a reality when it comes to EB.

I've played a lot of Stingrays (not nearly as many as some here) and have a good feel for how new SRs compare with older ones. The new ones are every bit as good as the old ones.

I guess it's a wood. That's how I was buying that old MM Stingray. I did not hook it up. I just put my ear against the body and listen while fingering...
That can be a big time discussion with many different opinions... but still it's kind of tendency but hardly coincidence....
Look at the Ford 1976 and 2004... Is there some difference? I think so...
Whenever you want to get yourself a good name as a company or a firm, you try your best and you get the result no matter what... It's somthing like a hand made production... at any costs... just one thing in the mind - quality!!!

Just how big do you think the company has grown? I wasn't aware that EB/MM made you privy to their management tactics or business scheme. So, basically, this is yet another example of "talking out of one's ass."

I'm always amused by people making sweeping generalizations when they have little knowledge of the reality. Unless you were in the Musicman factory in the late 70s and the Ernie Ball factory in 2004, you really shouldn't be slagging a company.

It's basically a four string version of an SR5 (if that makes sense).
Yea it makes sense.
So whats the difference between the likes of a Precision bass and a Jazz bass. I presume the Jazz basses are possibly designed specifically for playing Jazz-like basslines and Precision is for all kinds of stuff? Ive got an old Ibanez GSR i started with and i want to fire in some new pickups but not sure what to put into it, ive seen J and P pickups but i dont have a clue to be honest. Any suggestions?

The precision was named for its frets, which were pretty novel for a bass at that point. You could play with precision. Don't ask about the fretless precision that was marketed in the early 70s...

The jazz was Fender's second design. It had some modifications, including a slimmed-down neck with tighter string spacing at the nut, a more assymetric shape that was supposed to position the bass on your body better, and different electronics that gave more tonal versatility. It was called the "jazz" bass basically because jazz was fashionable at the time.

What sort of pickups does it have already?

yeh i've played one of those fretless P bass's. I actualy dont find them so bad, i also find the neck to be smaller on those then on the freted p basses

Its got passive ibanez p/j pickups. I know its fighting a losing battle with my musicman but id just like to use it and not want to burn it after, plus i want to use it to learn about basses a good bit more! It was my first bass so its got sentimental value too!! I just want it to sound more like a low end growly bass rather than the woody-plastic kind of horrific sound i get from it.

Ibanez from what I hear has improved on neck and sound with thier SRX series. Maybe look at getting some of those pickups for it.

Now I say it won't kick butt over a MM of any kind for sound. Sentimental is fine. I will always hang onto my first bass a MIM Fender Jazz. Plays good sounds just like a Jazz. Still the SR 5... well you know it is just so much better.

Their SRX series only have the replica MM pups, the soapbar humbuckers with exposed pole pieces. If you've got P/J pups., you'd have to do some routing to get 'em to fit in your bass.

It'd probably be fun to swap the pickups on it. I wouldn't go too daft with it, maybe get some Kent Armstrong p'ups (they're damned good by all accounts and they work out pretty cheap)

Cool ill look into some Kent Armstrongs then. Ive been reccomended a set of EMG's by a bloke i know for 40 quid, would this be a good buy? Could you guys possibly give me a few pointers on makes of p'ups? That'd be most helpful :D Ta. Also ill presume id obviosly get a better sound if i was to put a set of Bartolini's in my bass as opposed to Kent Armstrong p'ups but would there be much point or would it be easier and cheaper to just get another bass?
