Hi

I have a sub1 guitar and I think it's great! I like the locking tuners, but at the same time they feel like they could do with an upgrade to make them top notch. Can anyone tell me what higher quality tuners would fit in the spot of the old ones without any modifictions needed to the guitar?

I would also quite like to upgrade the bridge for the same reason. Is there a bridge out there that is compatible without needing to drill anything new? or at least could the saddles be replaced if so, with what?

Any help would be much appreciated!

As far as tuners go you could use the schaller mini locking tuners,
you can call customer service or get 'em from Warmoth.com. As far
as the bridge goesI have a sub 1 and I don't see a need to change
it at all, if anything you could put some graphtec saddles, I have
a set in my Silo special. I hope that helps!!

You can buy the Schaller locking tuners direct from EBMM. You may have to drill a small pilot hole if they don't line up with the old tuners (I've done this a few times, not a big deal).

The EBMM bridges, however, you can't buy- they don't sell those kind of parts except as a replacement (you have to send in the old ones first, and they have to be original).

Locking tuners I can see- they do hold the guitar in tune a little better. But why the bridge? Is there something you don't like about it?

Lastly, consider that by the time you spend $$$ upgrading (start with the tuners, then the pickups, then the ...) you may be in the same ball park as just buying a second hand EBMM model that's up from the Sub.

It's a great fiddle ... I'd probably keep it as is unless you're really finding something wrong with it.

Dude, I can beat the living hell out of the bar (even floated the trem for a period of time) and the thing refuses to come out of tune. Save your money bro ;)

edit: Also, to my knowledge, the EBMM bridge is a special design, and this is why you see so few EBMM's with the floyd rose bridge... can someone fill in here? I remember BP talking about it once.

It's not a tuning issue at all with the bridge. I like the basic body of the bridge, it's the saddles i find a bit tinny. I just like the bridge to feel a bit more solid. Maybe it's just the saddles I need. I've got an axis, I guess I'm just used to the more solid feel of the bridge on that

are the shaller minis what they put on the axis (my axis is back home in another country at the moment so i can't check). They seem different

Thanks for the advice everybody!

Do you rest your hand on the bridge when you play? I do that too and I had to spend some time with it to get used to that bridge shape, now I wouldn't have it any other way though. Did you just get the guitar recently?

By the way, your guitar doesn't exist without pictures, just so you know :p

I think it's locking Schallers you want as on my Silhouettes, and I don't think they do have a guide peg, just a screw hole. The mini schallers don't appear to lock.......looking at my StewMac catologue. Take a look at their website for pics. before you order from EBMM

i got the guitar about 2 months ago, just after i moved to London. I came from New Zealand and didn't want to have to send my axis. I really like it, it sounds and feels great, and i like that if i accidentally ding it i don't feel like crying as i would with my axis! the finish doesn't budge

yes i do rest my hand on the bridge

as they are not making subs anymore.......i'd leave it original. it really is a solid guitar.....& there is nothing performance wise for you to upgrade.
it would kinda be a shame to de-value it like that, & i bet you would be sorry both performance wise....& value wise.

rydiggidydog,

Do you have an Axis (with a Floyd) or an Axis Super Sport back in New Zealand?

If you have the A.S.S, then it would have the Schaller locking tuners; if it's an Axis, then it has Schaller non-locking tuners. Switching out the tuners would, as others have said, require modifications.

Regarding the bridge, does the Sub have the bent saddles (like the AL and the Silo Special)? If you have an A.S.S. and are used to the cast saddles, you could just change them out - that would be a reversable mod as long as you kept the original bent saddles. That might get you where you want to be with the Sub.

Why don't you investigate Graphtech saddles. I have them on nearly all my Balls, and they are great!

They do look really nice and I think they are really wht I am am looking for. They have quite a few options based on the spacing of the saddles. Any idea which ones I would need to get?

The ones you need are the PS-8000-00. They are the ones Graphtech advise using. They leave a tiny gap between the saddles, but they work just fine. I never find they move and really are the business!
