Upgraded top or Piezo?

What do you guys think? Upgraded top or piezo on 20th Ann. Silo; I can't afford both.

Well, my first question would be...have you ever played a piezo equipped axe? If no, then try one first before making the decision.

Now, what would I do. Piezo. EBMM does not put out a bad top even if it is not an upgrade. I have seen killer tops that were not upgrades. You just get pick of the litter...some are better than others....but you will not be disappointed.

If you don't like the piezo (after trying one...) obviously the answer is....get the upgraded top!

Either way....it's a win win situation for you....

I'm just a hobbiest guitar player, so my need for a piezo is just an extra goodie.

I would say if the upgraded top you're looking for is quilt, then I'd go for that.
If you were thinking flame, then I'd go for the piezo.

I prefer flame over quilt most of the time, but I prefer quilt for the 20th Silo.
I think upgraded quilt is more noticeable that you've paid a premium for, over the flame. If the flame is not perfectly bookmatched, then who cares.

I agree, Koogie knows of what he speaks. I would think this particularly true of an anniversary model.

Plus, the piezo gives you additional tonal qualities and options, both on its own and mixed with the mags. No matter how good looking the top is, it doesn't mean its going to make the guitar sound any better

Get the piezo. I think Dargin mentioned that the 20th anniversary models would all have nicer tops anyway.

Thanks. You guys rock. I appreciate all of the feedback. I've never used a piezo, but since I'm parting ways with my takamine to help with this purchase, a piezo may help ease the pain. And besides, unlike the 20th, I can replace the takamine any time.

Get the piezo, you won't see the top when playing your guitar anyway...

+1 to Koogie. If you are familiar with Piezos and know about the extra possibilities it will give you, then I would go.............

Thinking outside the box here...and coming from a guy that loves and owns a couple of piezos...I might opt for the upgraded top.

You may not be able to afford both now, but you may well in the future...when the 20th will no longer be available new and way harder to come by. But you'd still be able to buy several music mans with a piezo option at that time.

Tough call.

I think the piezo is the way to go on this one. I mean, EBMM will not put one of these babies out without a decent top on it. NO WAY! It might be pick of the litter, but by no means a bad top. Just ain't gonna happen.

Plus, you are getting rid of the acoustic......problem solved right there. You get both the electric and acoustic in one awesome package.....Win Win if you ask me.

Absolutely no two ways about it - it just has to be Piezo.

The piezo through my AER and Mags through Pod/Marshall gives you soooo many options.

When I first heard the Piezo it was like someone had punched me in the stomache.
It is jus awesome.

If you can only afford one of the options go for the Piezo.

When I ordered my AL the piezo option was a lot of extra ££££££.

Well worth it - I love it through the AER. (There again the mags through the AER sound great too!)

I also put it though a REALLY old 20 watt valve amp and my mate turned up the Piezo by accident (he thought it was wired like a STrat!!) and it was instant ZZ Top !

Anybody who's thinking of getting a Piezo - get it, cos it's a bummer to retrofit, and I personally wouldn't buy a second hand guitar with a retro piezo.

Now then, my memory is so bad lately , what are we talking about again ???
