New to this forum.

I just get a great sterling ax40. I am going to upgrade to a original Floyd. Was wondering if there are instructions somewhere at EB on how to do this? I've read that you shouldn't remove all the strings on a EB Guitar at once in order to prevent neck damage. I'm assuming the truss rod needs adjusted prior to removing the strings? Just wonder if there is documentation on how to go about this?

Thanks,

JG

Welcome here!

Not sure about the answer as I'm not a huge Floyd fan but

Why would you do such costy upgrade? Try to get a second hand Axis instead maybe ;)

I'm just replacing the Sterling Floyd Rose Bridge with an Original Floyd Rose bridge.

Myth! You cannot damage the neck in any way. The truss rod might, possibly, need a little adjustment when you re-string but that's all. Personally, in 20-something-odd years I have never had any problems whatsoever and I take all the strings off quite frequently. I'll do it again tomorrow! Same with my strat and my mandolin and countless other guitars. Honestly, sometimes I think there are some shifty guitar techs out there who make this stuff up to scare people into giving them business.

Of course, it must be said, a good guitar tech is worth his/her weight in gold.

No.

Proviso - if you don't know what you are doing, don't do it! But setting up a guitar and replacing parts is not rocket science. Hell, rocket science ain't even that hard. Buy one of Dan Erlewine's books on guitar setups and put a little cash into the right tools and you'll be fine. Any idiot can do it. Many of us do too! :D

BTW, why are you replacing the stock Floyd? I hear it's pretty darn good.

Thanks for the info, From everything I'm reading most are happy with the Sterling Ax40 except for the stock pu's and the Floyd. I'm using a Roland GR55 so I can quickly change tunings w/o having to retune for every little song I want to play so the stock PU's aren't an issue for me. I have read that the sterling Floyd is pretty decent but not a "floyd" when it comes down to it. So far, I'm not "dissatisfied" with it, but before I got the guitar I already got a great deal on a Ping FLoyd so I'm probably going to swap it just to see if I can tell a difference. If its not noticeable I will probably swap back and sell the Ping. I just added the new Cobalt strings last night and WOW what a difference. I hate to sound like all the videos but DAMN the axe sounds SO much cleaner, brighter. The cobalts are perfect for a shredder like the axis or ax40
