1st of all, it doesn't even HAVE to be fixed, it affects nothing, and you would need to look hard to see it...but it's there!
Small cramped stage at club; photographer forces me to lean back- And
neck of Sterling Bass (New! Natural wood, Maple Board, Single Pup, classic tort pg, great bass, etc.)- hits wall-
SMALL nick behind neck- between 1st 2nd fret, can only feel it in 1st/2nd positions, really small and insignificant, doesn't matter...
BUT I KNOW IT'S THERE- it's a mental thing.
Talked to my tech, told him I would bring bass in for a set-up (doesn't hurt)
He says they can be sanded out with fine grain paper, he'll take a look, etc.
In the meantime-
Besides your sympathy which I assume I have-
Does anyone know? Anyone at EB/MM or on the board?
CAN this be done?
Can the small nick be sanded away forever, restored to perfect original condition so I will NEVER even remember that it was there, or that it even
happened,
Or should I start adjusting myself to the fact that the bass has a war scar from playing live.
It really doesn;t matter, I can barely even feel it except in that one tiny spot, but please...til I get to my tech...
Tell Me!
Can it be removed??
I NEED to know.
thank you fellow EBMM players and fans in advance for your help.
CAN IT BE REMOVED???

I would think that your best bet would be to call customer service and see what they could advise you to do. After all, nobody knows their instruments better than them. Good luck.

You can put a slightly damp cloth on it and then put a hot iron over that.

BRIEFLY.

The heat and humidity will raise the grain.

Then sand it down a bit, if you must, then put some gunstock oil on it.

Good as new.

Well, maybe I shouldn't have infused "humor" in my question. It seems to inspire
useless sarcastic answers from those with nothing better to do or say.
My Bad.

"Old Toe"- thanks for nothing (but a stoopid comment).

Jongitarz- Do you play? No effect on fretboard, true, but a nick does effect playing as you can feel the nick when you shift position or play over that spot.
Besides being cosmetic, that is, which may actually matter to some.-not as much as how it effects movement up and down the neck.
Not kidding- Almost.

To the well-intentioned others, don't think it falls under Customer Service for thier advice, they probably have other matters to attend to.

Bovinehost, thanks for a sensible reply- I'll see what my tech, who is very knowledgeable says or can do.

Next time I post a ?, I'll phrase it so it leaves no wiggle room for non-sense.
Sorry. My bad I guess.

Your original post has no emoticons or smileys in it. How can you be so certain that the "humor" would be apparent to all who read it? No one can read your tone of voice or inflections in your post.

Another point, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Dude - spend some time on these boards and you will find that we are a bunch of sincere bass players and EBMM fanatics. To ask a question and get answers from us and then give us Sh*t is not the right thing to do. We will help and you will be thankful for our answers. If not - don't ask.

I know you are upset with your nick. We will do what we can as it isnt a warranty issue but these knuckleheads bug us with stuff all the time. They also mean well and I thought Oldtoe was very funny...if i crashed my car I may call him for some of those sedatives.

YOu got quick and accurate information and some friendly jostling. You asked your question at 8:17 and got an answer at 934. Not too bad and we dont outsource this board to people who dont eat farm animals. What more could you ask for?

Remember you are entering a room for the first time the room is going to be what it is and you may have to test the waters before getting offended.....I hope you stay!

Yeah, I play. Not bass, but I have been playing guitar probably longer than you have been alive. I have been working on guitars/basses for years. Your post was reactionary and IMO funny. If I pissed you off, I'm sorry. I deleted my original post beacuse I am tired of people reading things that aren't there, but I feel the need to respond to this. You have a small ding.(heh heh heh) Get on with life my friend. It is not the end of the world.

ya man - dont worry about the joking around. everyone here is pretty rad and we're pretty close knit so we're used to joking around and messing with eachother. nobody meant any harm just being "funny".

ya - jack did a great job at explaining the soldering iron thing i tried to hint at (and dont quite understand).

like BP said - stick around, you'll get a feel for the place and like the hundreds of other folks you'll probably feel right at home in no time

Humor works okay around here, thank God, but you should ease up on your first foray into the forum. You'll get some good information here, if you'll give it a shot.
