Hey all!
Just wanted to drop a line to everyone, especially those new to these like me! When adjusting your neck, be extra careful to make sure your tool doesnt touch the binding at the bottom of the fretboard. I wasn't careful enough, and with the slightest touch, i scraped a piece of the binding off! Im talking the size of a fingernail clipping, but still, not what I wanted on my brand new guitar! That binding is fragile stuff! My "fix" ws a careful application of black permanent marker, If I didnt point it out to someone it would be completely un-noticeable.

On a related topic, for every time wipe down after use I have been using a super soft cotton cloth, but under intense light i can see the faintest swirl marks in the finish. Is a microfibre cloth a better way to go? I know there are guitar cloths out there, just didnt feel they were probably all that different from regular cloth. Again these are really amost invisible marks, unnoticable unless really looking for them.

A good quality microfiber is definitely the way to go. It's a lot softer and less abrasive than any terry cloth towel. I'm willing to bet the swirl marks are from using the terry cloth.

Whenever I clean and polish my guitars, I actually use meguiars auto care products. The finish on the guitars is very similar to the finish on a car. I get amazing results. Show room quality. Way better than any dedicated guitar polish I've ever used in the past. They even have products that will help get the swirls out.

When I get the time, I'm gonna do a thread and show my method of taking care of and maintaining my guitar finishes. If you're interested or have any questions in the meantime, just shoot me a pm and I can help you get started.

I know using car products is an unorthodox way of doing things, but I'm telling you it actually works!

Meguiars wax is great for most finishes. You just have to be careful with Nitro finishes, they are a lot more sensitive than poly..

Thanks everyone! I have plenty of that stuff around already. And it wasnt terry cloth, it was a super soft old Sarong my wife had around. And apparently I owe Koogie a nickel, because I typed that to someone yesterday,,,,

I find it interesting that guitar finishes are much better than car finishes these days. The new car paints are quite thin and soft; very easy to scratch. I know people investing $$$ into protective car finish products. There are also rumors car companies will switch to water-based paint, which is supposed to be even softer. Hopefully the guitar finishes will stay the way they are.

I dont know why some are shocked as some years back Meguire used to make a whole guitar cleaning kit for Fender which is now discontinued. I find the EB products to be nice and fast!

As far as adjusting your truss rod just get the right sized allen wrench (the really long one) and you will never have an issue. Sorry to hear about your mishap there Moose.
