I really don't think that there is a better made solid body electric guitar than a musicman.
The only gripe I have is with the plastic nut.

My only complaint is that they are so friggin addictive...one is never enough! But seriously I own 4 different makes of USA made guitars (some of which are hand made) and for the money, the EBMM wins :D

2004 Sub 1 H-H Textured black finish, matte black pickguard w/ vintage trem. and locking tuners

Features: (10) its got everything I need and then some, I love the trem. and the locking tuners are amazing, I never have to tune this thing!!

Sound: (10) I play in a metal band as well as do shred and jazz styles, so im always looking for a guitar that can cover all the bases, this one gets the job done and then some. It holds its own against my many other classic metal guitars and cuts through really well, and has possibly the best clean tone i've ever heard.

Apperance: (8) I love the shape of the guitar, the color is very nice and adds texture to the mix which is rare on most guitars of the day. No complaints here.

Playability: (10) This guitar is truly a players guitar, not just something to hang on you wall and admire. The neck is great, the trem is great, and the body couldn't be better from a playing standpoint.

Reliability and Durability: (n/a) I've only had it for about a month no problems yet.

Customer Support: (10) I had a problem with the tremolo at first and got the problem solved very quickly with help from staff in the forum.

Overall:
9.6 / 10

GOOD GEEEETAR!!! :)

I can't help but think that these "reviews" may end up being just a little bit biased.

The review I did on my EVH was as honest as I could be. In fact I made an effort not to give it the benefit of the doubt whenever the possibility came up.

I can't speak for others but I was not blowing smoke when I posted mine.

That's fine it was just an observation of what could happen.

I still think the nut should be bone on a guitar of this quality, but a well cut plastic nut is better than a badly cut bone nut for sure,I shall shut up now...
and FWIW I would rather the binding wasn't epoxy either, but it is and it doesn't make any difference other than maybe the price would be hiked up if it were applied traditionally.

IMO no guitar can do everything... but my a.s.s is my fav guit ever

This is goint to be a "review pending" post for SUB1 with 2 humbucker and tremolo w/locking tuners.
There's no dealer in my area, so I had to order it from Musicians friend. The first guitar I got from them had a huge fret buzz :(, and I couldn't get rid of it myself, so I took it to the local guitar shop. Repairs guy there gave me a verdict in 2 minutes - uneven frets. So I shipped that guitar back to Musicians Friend, and got a replacement, which appeared to have same exact problem   This time around I shipped the guitar back to the factory to get the problem fixed, so right now it's somewhere sitting in a FedEx truck on its way to California.
I've been without a decent guitar to play for more then 2 month now... :(
I'll post a more detailed review when I get the guitar back (hopefully soon), but it sounded very good through my Mesa even with the fret buzz. I also liked the neck a lot. Another plus is that people at Music Man I had to talk to seemed very nice, so I'm hoping they'll fix my SUB quickly.

You probably should have sent it back the factory from the get go. They'll fix your guitar quicka nd you;ll have it back in no time. EBMM rules! Jonguitars here on the forum will be the one to be fixing it, so you KNOW it will be done right. When you get it back you'll be FLOORED! Congrats on the purchase and don't worry, it will be worth the wait!

Being that Music Man guitars are often noted for their outstanding attention to fret work, I seriously doubt the frets were bad.

The guitar probably needed a little neck relief, some saddle height adjustments, and then it'd be ready to ROCK!

But you can relax now, as Jongitarz will make it play like no other, and you will live happily ever after. ;)

Well, the tech i took the guitar too actually showed me how he detected that frets were uneven. He had a metal bar with a straight edge, and when he would press it against 3 frets that where uneven, it would rock back and forth resting on the middle fret. I'm not a guitar tech, so this maybe a complete bs criterion, but I don't see why he would make it up.

Here's a review of my Axis

I'll freely admit that the body style is not my favorite, but then I pick it up and play it and I'm suddenly surrounded by the incredible tone. It really is an exceptional sounding and playing instrument. I've owned many other high end brands of guitars and this is the best guitar for tone and playability I've ever had. It is not the most versatile guitar in the world but as a rock instrument it is the best. In all areas aside from versatility I would rate it a solid 10.

I've been shopping for another guitar lately and I always take my Axis for comparison sake while shopping. I do this because I know that whatever I have I will really only use the one I like the best for the majority of my playing. I recently checked out an Ibanez JS model. I liked the neck, but not as much as the Axis neck and the tone wasn't nearly as good. I also checked out a Music Man JP model. Petrucci is my favorite player by the way, but I didn't like the neck as well and I didn't think the tone was as good either.

I really think the Axis is the modern day equivalent to the Les Pauls and Strats of yesterday. I believe it is destined to become the sonic standard that other instruments will be measured by.

I've read a review on a JP that wasn't very positive about the PU's and more on harmony central.

Price Paid: US $1337.00
Features: 5
usa 24 frets body basswood two custom dimarzio pickups piezo locking tuners

Sound: 4
I play rock metal bluse jazz and so many styles .But after every thing I heard about this guitar I thought IT would be the one guitr I could use for anything. I was so wrong so here it is the piezo were the only thing I liked. But the humbukers were poor sounding my seymour jb sounds much beter .the humbuckers on the jp have no nothing only a sting sound and muddy.so before you spend $1350.00 on this guitar play one or buy a guitar with good pickups dont get me wrong musicman dose make grate guitars and I have Axis but the jp was A MISTAKE

Action, Fit, & Finish: 7
the action was okay the neck felt poor no finish. I cant see how he can have his name on this guitar. I bet his necks are Awhole lot beter

Reliability/Durability: 5
like i said musicman do make beter guitars and bass .but this guitar looks good but feels like 300.00 guitar keep it in a glass case if you want it last long

Customer Support: 5
I orderd this guitar in december and did not get till march they give you the run around

Overall Rating: 4
I have been playing for 23 years I have owned fenders musicman Ibanez I wish I WOULD have played on before I BOUGHT it.the only thing good was the pezio.every thing else felt like it was made in korea.I think john petrucci needs to go back to musicman and see whats going on its his name on the line.If it were lost or stolen the only thing I Would do is insure it so I could get my money back and buy something else.So GOD be with you and any thing you do thanks

I know a friend of mine is very happy with the JP he bought recently.
Sound was superb and it eyed and fellt very sollid to me.

I don't think there is any reason for this bloke to be nagging like this.

can I say that Robert sedra is entitled to his opinion just like I am. My opinion is that robert serda is moron. He claims to have an axis and that neck is finished better than the JP. He claims that he got the renaround from customer service because he ordered it in december and got it in march. Its too bad that he didnt know that the guitar was specially made for him.

He 'dose' say that you guys make 'grate' guitars, which is a 'grate' compliment. I think it's 'grate' that you guys make 'grate' guitars, even though you give every one the 'run around.' ;)
