For me, the ideal single cabinet is a 4-10.

Also, in my ideal world, my Ampeg 4-10 would weigh 25 pounds.

Back in the old days, I would bring my 4-10 cabinet for just about everything, unless I wanted to prove how really manly I was - in which case, the 1-15 came along, too. I don't think it really made much sonic difference, but it sure looked cool.

There isn't much my (much lighter) Markbass 2-10 and 1-15 cannot do. I've tried it indoors, low volume, outdoors, high volume, and it performs perfectly.

Now if I really want bone-crunching, guitarist-frightening volume and pants-flapping, I'll still choose the Sunn 1200s with the two Ampeg cabs - but it's a trade-off. Do I really want to lug that stuff around? (No, I do not.)

I need sherpas, dammit.

I'm currently using a 210 and 115. I wish i had a 410 to go with the 115. If I didn't play 5-strings, I would have a 610 or 810.

I love 10s...can't beat them for clarity and punch, but a 15 does a lot for the B-string.

yeah a 15 is a must for b strings. I cant remember any 4 by 10 having good clarity on a b string. Ive played galliens, swrs, edens, mesas, peaveys, and others. The one that came closest to having a decent b was eden and those are way to heavy to lug arond. Even 2 by 12s dont cut a b string. so if you dont play standard tuning a 15 is a must in my opinion. but yeah best single cabinet is a 4 by 10.

I haven't had any need to change cabs since I went 2x10 and 1x15 in the ampeg classic cabs. I love what they do especially with the Bongo.

I do not play a 5 string. I will give the SWR combo amp with the 15" speaker and the Peavey 210 combo a go this Sunday to see if it do the job.

I may wind up ditching the SWR Combo with the 15" and getting another 210 or 410 and an SVT head see where that takes me. The SWR combo is 160 watts alone and 200 watts with an extension cab.

Looking for more punch and a tighter sound. I believe this new setup will do it.....

I'm running my SR5 through a bridged SWR SM-900 w/ an Eden D115XLT on an Eden D115XL. Deep and clear tone plus SR5 growl as required.

That said, I'm pushin' 50 and eyin' the Class D's and neo's. Whaddayagonnado.

(my SWR Basic Black was stolen a few years ago-- I miss it for the small stuff--you might want to hang on to yours)

My take on this is when playing in a venue with PA support a 15" or bigger is not very usefull. Or you have to be on really big stages to really take advantage of the bigger speakers. Heard so many soundmen complain when using 15" speakers in medium sized venues but playing on high volume. You really HEAR them when you stand 4 or more meters in front of them.
I prefer tens. Have a 210 and a 410 now. Tight sound that really brings out my punchy SR5's :)
