Vaccuming...

Vaccumming is the only time that I have picked up my other two bases since I found my Stingray. Had to move them so I could clean up yesterday. I love the Stingray, I have found two really super sounds that I am in love with. First one is Treble Full, Mid all the way back, and Bass Full. The other one being Treble a little under middle, Mid full, Bass in the middle. I think I had a misconception of the Stingray tone for a long time. I always considered it aggressive, which it is, but I get an almost piano like solid tone from it. Didn't realize that was in realm of tonal possibilities for a Stingray.

This also happens to be my 100th post. I have been a daily reader of quite a few online forums for awhile now, some for over 5 years. I don't think that I have accumulated more then 50 posts on any of them, and I have done 100 here in about 4 months. Cheers to this community! Its a great place to be.

Also of note, I am about halfway through the wait on my fretless Bongo Hp, can't wait! Since its only got one pickup, maybe it will get done sooner Ordered a new pickguard for my Stingray, it should be here in another week. I will keep ya'll in suspense about what color I got until it gets in. My defretted lavender pearl SR5 will be put up for sale soon, but Beth has first dibs before I put it out there. I have also finished my bass playing corner...

2) i vacucumed today as well

and ... while vaccuming i moved one of my "untouched" basses ... but not on purpose. the vaccume's chord caught the guitar stand and my Fender P Bass took a nose dive poor bastard. i felt bad so i thought id be nice to him and played it for a lil while

This post reminds me of my embarrising admission on another forum that I sometimes vacuum my basses with the soft brush attachment...

I hoped I've paved the way for any other closet bass-vacuumers out there.

My other fretted bass has seen very little action since I got my 'Ray last year.

And I boost the bass by a hair, and cut the treble by the same. Slap or fingerstyle, it sounds great!

Since the SR5 is fretless, the better comparison would be the Reverend against the Stingray, considering they both have maple boards as well. Gee...well...I believe that the maple boards and four strings are the only similar aspects of these two basses. Pretty much the typical Apples to Oranges discussion.

The Reverend is a semi-hollow body bass, passive, with a neck that is more like a Sterling, except maybe a little more comforatable with its rolled in neck. I really like the sound with both pickups on full, as well as with just the P all the way up. The P by itself is what the typical above average sounding Pbass would sound like, so obviously thats a great tone. Its fairly light weight, maybe a .5kg less then the stingray. Its not a slapper either, part of that is due to the TI jazz rounds it wears, but it had slinkys once and it didn't slap either. Its also got some really low action which Larry can attest too. Reverends are passive, but have pretty hot pickups. Also, the PJ has a much more wider variety of tones then the JJ I had. I really only got one sound that I really liked out of the JJ, but it was a great one.

The Stingray is more aggressive, has a killer slap tone, even though I can't slap, and has great clarity all over. Its a Stingray, what else can I say. The neck has taken a little getting used to since I have been playing skinny jazz necks, but I have big hands, and in the long run will probably be better off with a bigger neck.

I am not a wonderful tone descriptor, but at least thats some kind of comparison for you.

In fact, my bass cases just lingered in the corner of the living room, which we're renovating (so they went up to the bedroom - I'm kinda hpoing they mate in there).

Anyways, the missus gave me the green light to put both on stands in the corner when the living room is done.

I'm really happy bout that & I know I'll just have to play them every time I see them there.

most of my stuff is in cased and chillin in the closet too but im not too good at putting 'em back after ive yanked 'em out.

the EBMMs are safe though. i like em too much to be lazy and risk an accident like this

The seat is a knockoff of one of these , which go for considerably more. Its the only knockoff I have seen to date, and the place I bought it from doesn't have them anymore. Its exactly what I was looking for though, a cool chair without arms to get in the way.

Actually that was a pre-vaccuming picture. That picture was taken the day I got the bookcase. More then likely that was a piece of the packing material. So there!

thanks for the comparison with the REV small equestrian. I considered getting one of these on looks alone (very unlike me) but I decided that seeing as I'm not a Fender jazz fan and that's what these instruments seem to do the best that I'd leave it.

Regarding a p sound I find my SR5 with old rounds and pu selector towards the neck with 20% piezo gives a very nice approximation.

By the way my boss used to own a set of four of those Mies van der Rohe chairs. Personally I don't think they're worth the money, unlike a certain bass guitar...
