This is a tough decision (and ultimatly you have the hardest part of having to decide)....

Pro's -
Its a Bali Burst, going to be rare as time goes on.
The issues with it seem cosmetic in nature. In my experience I have had a lot of pretty guitars that were dogs and tons of battle hardened guitars that sounded and played unparrareled to anything else.
If they are offering money back as a discount to keep take that money to a luthier and have them fix it up. I wouldnt do this for a standard run as I would swap it out but this is a one off so to speak.
GC Return policy is simple, if you dont like it for ANY reason get ALL of your money back. Its the only reason why I continue to shop there. If you are having a different experience call corp asap....they HAVE to give all the money back if you return within 30 days.

Cons -
When I buy new I like NEW.....resale goes down....
I do like my limited's to be mint....

At the end of the day if the Store manager isnt making this right by getting you a better discount on the other guitar you want I would return and walk. Maybe I have some of the best GC managers at the 2 stores near me but I go through a redic amount of euipment and they have never asked why, in fact they have asked if they could help more. This is your money and you worked hard for it so get what you want and make sure the store managers have your interest in mind more than thiers.....

I dont work for GC btw....I just shop a lot there....a lot....

FWIW, it's your call, but unless you get it ridiculously cheap the defects will eat away at you over time and you may struggle to bond with it as a result. That has been my experience but you may feel differently. In view of the rarity, I would try to negotiate a slightly higher refund than has already been offered, even a hundred $'s or so, and that may just be enough to make you feel justified in keeping it.

After reading your last post again, I think you need to look at them larger picture. Do you want a guitar with battle scars that you didn't make or wait a little longer to have a perfectly new guitar that you can make your own battle scars on?

I couldn't imagine paying that much for a guitar that beat up.

Think about if you want to resell it, I don't care how rare a finish is, you won't be able to sell it for what you want because of the defects.

I really wish we had a Bali 7 for you over here! Lol You may want to try one of the Premier Dealer Network dealers in the future...I can only speak for us, but I know there are several really great dealers in the PDN network that won't send you dinged up guitars!!

Hope you get it resolved soon!

That's usually what I do. I've always ordered from Bass Central and this time around for my Emerald Green JPXI-7 I went with Pete Dubaldo. The first BFR-7 I ever got was from a GC and it had been there awhile but was in much better condition than this one and they gave me a SICK deal on it because they just wanted it out of there. So I thought it wouldn't be as big of a deal for them to give me kind of a good deal since they lied about the condition and it had been sitting there awhile, but I guess every GC is different.
For the time being I've 'accepted' their offer, but I'm still able to send it back if I want. Which may be the case. The offer they made was better, but not enough to make me really stoked on the guitar...it's just kind of teetering back and forth between "is it actually worth that just for the color?"

i'll jump in since for the time being things seem resolved and it has to do with color...

When i bought my last EBMM it was a silo special in my absolute favorite color (Mint green) and it was my dream guitar (my first guitar ever played was an original 60's Strat in sea foam green) and since EBMM had one i had to have it. It was used and cross country at GC. Normally i'd like to actually see it... but that wasn't an option. When i call there were some questions that seemed a bit off... being a roasted neck and a swapped bridge pickup...

Pete Dubaldo was so kind to be my eyes on the ground so to speak... i put the reserve on it and Pete checked it out... up and down. He notified me of a pen tip pressure mark (hardly noticible but he found it) and the neck wasn't roasted just vintage tint... and mentioned that the bridge pickup didn't really match the other two and might want to replace it...

he folllowed up with a if this is your dream guitar then this is a definate great find... i pulled the trigger no surprises on delivery and was able to get a good price on it - since it wasn't roasted and the pen pressure mark....

But totally understand the teetertotter feelings...

I say this...

If this is a color that you absoluely love weigh into consideration the odds of finding one again (i did this with mine) and the price paid. The guitar is still a fine fine FINE guitar... but will it be a guitar that you look at everytime and get frustrated with... Playin music shouldn't be that of angst... but of pure joy and release from the world...

JP's tend to have really cool limited releases so there's bound to be something else sooner or later...

Yeah see, that's the thing right there. I *know* there's stuff coming up. I know the 'Majesty' will be making an appearance soon. And I've been looking forward for that for...two years now? LOL I do enjoy most of the one-offs and special runs, but the Bali Burst is easily one of my faves.

The other issue is that I need at least two 7's for tour(s) coming up starting in October...so I can't really risk sending back a guitar and sitting on that much money waiting for another cool one to come out. If it weren't for that, yeah I'd probably just use the one for sitting around practicing and I'd be fine.

You're also absolutely right that it is a FINE instrument. A nick on the headstock doesn't affect the playability. And for some reason, which I can't confirm, I think this sounds *slightly* better (cleaner and tighter) than the JP12 I had. That's why I was a little stunned. You would think with my negative connotation of the guitar it would have a placebo effect making it sound worse...but man, it sounds phenomenal.

I have bought a used EBMM Axis Super Sport from them once. They did not tell me all of the damage to it when I bought it. However, I was able to return it to my local GC ( I did not buy it there.) with no problems. Sorry for your misfortune.

I had one issue with my former Y2D that was so apparent to me it showed up EVERY time I played the guitar. It was a monster instrument, but that flaw "killed" it for me.

Now all my friends laughed at me because they thought it was a stupid "obsession" with the flaw, but for me, I don´t know how to put it clear...it kind of snarled at me every time I plugged the axe in and played.

So I ended up selling the guitar, and then bought another one which was flawless.

And now I´m happy I did.

Then I bought my Luke which has several dings (some of them going all the way to the wood), but since I bought it that way I love the dents and also think they´re cool and give the axe a serious mojo!

So it doesn´t matter what everyone says. We all have different opinions on this subject...you KNOW what is right to do. Don´t try to over-think it. If it bothers you so much, then "your heart" knows it, and there´s NO WAY it will settle down or disappear.

That´s my thought on this thing.

That's kind of what i was thinking... or alluding to...

for me the pressure point that was on my guitar didnt matter to me... especially since it took Pete a long time to find it... but honestly i absolutely love that guitar... it's taken me to new levels of playing and has some great mojo tone and feel to it. couldn't be happier...

I've thought about getting another silo special but reluctant to do so dearing that it won't have that mojo feel... i know neck profile and everything would be the same spec wise but there's something about this guitar that is JUST IT for me and won't part with it...

Wait a second....MusiciansFriend is going to have this model in this color in December?

No- AJ made it pretty clear that they WON'T be making this color again anytime soon and Music Man had no idea about these links both GC and MF had up. He had to call their GC rep to even find out what they were about. I think they were working on taking them down or figuring out how/why they were up there.

On a different note the 7-string you ordered through us has finally arrived!

Damn. I'm not just saying this because it's mine....but that's the sexiest Emerald Green JP I've seen so far. That pic alone will hold me over 'til Tuesday.

And just so everyone knows- Pete has been awesome through this whole thing- even with the GC disaster, offering to help me anyway he can.
