Hi downunders,

there is a quite remote possibility that I move from Italy to Sydney with my whole family - wife, 2 kids age 5 and 3, 2 dogs and one Blue Luke Luke guitar :)

before I accept the job and leave for good, I would love to hear some tips and advices from you guys. PMs are OK, so we don't waste BP bandwidth!!!

and yes, could be a chance to play some balls together :)

I have a cousin that just did that (London to Melbourne) ... moved the wife and three kids. He's only been there a few months but absolutely loves it. The move was hell though.

back to the topic, I did that when I was younger I moved for 3 years abroad it's an interesting experience, you will miss couple of things from your current life and you will decide to go back (if ever) you will discover that you will miss thing from your new life ahahah

Do it, it will be a great benefit for your kids from English point of view

Brisbane is the place to be, I've worn shorts all winter :p

Liar :p I couldn't see your legs when we last went over.

And yeah, Brisbane is great. Being a muso it gives you a great music scene (fortitude valley) plus two other scenes (sunshine coast and gold coast) in an hours drive. The weather is great all year round (it might hit zero once or twice in winter at night, days average around 20).

I've toured to heaps of places internationally, and theres nowhere else I'd rather be, except possibly LA, but that's for a work reason...if you can come here, do it.

yeah, the only thing is though, I'd have to be close to a MM dealer!! Where does that put me??

Right now I am within a days driving distance of no less than 12 guitar centers (I base all my housing needs on that single geographical pre-requisite).

You know what they say in real estate: location, location, location:)

Hi there..

I'm an EU-ean living in Melb.. The only tip I can give you is that, AU is not EU, be prepared for that..make sure your wife is prepared for that. Building a new social circle in a foreign environment without extended family support will be a challenge..don't underestimate its impact. AU will be very foreign in every way..you may embrace it and feel liberated after the stifling EU homogeneity or you may feel alienated by its lack of coherence.. The upside is that it will most likely bring you all closer together and you will experience something new..the kids will see life from another angle and will no doubt enrich their lives tremendously.

G'day mates :)

Thanks for all of your replies!!! If this aussie thing goes right I'll be in Sydney as I can't choose where the HQ of the company will be :)

I know a move to a foreing, distant country won't be simple both in terms of logistics and integration.
What I can say is we're not the stereotype italians you probably think we are, like spaghetti, mamma, family, italy my home, etc... Much like not all aussies are Crocodile Dundees or all Californians are like this guy:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyutwC_4USA]YouTube - Surfer Interview Fail[/ame]
:D

We have several (heaps of :D ) friends from all around EU and some in California and I know a couple of nice Malaysian guys. We're kinda used to international flavor. Even though we would be worried to start from scratch in a new country, we are kinda excited at the same time.

Yes, AUS is not EU, but if this is going to happen I feel I'm ready to integrate in a new country, new culture, new life. ...am I really? :D

Now the real problem is I have quite a strong US accent when I speak english... Will I learn to speak with another accent? :)

Anyway, thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

Denny, are you sure that you want to go to Australia ???

I never visited Australia, but I know two known facts about Australian people :

1. Australians wear mullets. Just ask Rob :

2. Australians like to dress like Olivia Newton Jones (just ask Dizzy for tips) :

Are you sure you want to expose your kids to such filthy behaviors ???

With an attitude like that you'll be fine. Aus is easy to assimilate into.. It comprises the spectrum of the world lifestyles in a progressive society quite successfully and being an island nation, it does feel like a world unto its own..which you and your family may or may not appreciate in the long run. One thing to keep in mind, Aus diverges from region to region, the states and cities are quite different from eachother each a unique experience and lifestyle.. So, when you're here..make sure you do travel around and experience Aus in her entirety. 'In bocca al lupo' with the move and let us know how you're getting along.

Its questions and circumstances like the original poster's that really make this community more than just fanboys imo.

Its a way of finding kindred spirits when life takes you in different directions and having a way of knowing friendships are there to be made and music is the elixer of life.

Good luck.

Hey, but that's German style. They're still in the 1980s :D

As for the David Lee Roth version of Arnold Swarzenegger, well... Dizzy, can you tell me more? :)

And Keith: thanks, you're definitely right ;)

Hey Denny

Clearly you're a happily married man but you watch out for those Aussie girls when you get there, some of them could turn your head!;)
