The dead giveaway, other than the pickguard shape (since its not a classic) is the sticker serial number on back of the headstock.

I sent the seller a question and said that I thought it looked an awful lot like a highly modified SUB5 and was informed "Wrong. This is a rare passive Stingray bass."

I'd hate to see someone buy this thinking they're getting a genuine SR5. Messaged seller again.

A quick way to end the auction is to report that to Ebay. It's fraud.

I think I will do that. I was really interested in it but I knew that something was not right. That's way I came here for advice and thanks for that.

Yeah, if you read the TB thread it describes everything:

Ernie Ball Music Man 5-string for sale. This bass started life as a Music Man SUB5, serial number X07182. It was then customized by its last owner. He had a builder make a new body, out of swamp ash, that was the same as the actual Stingray. Then the newly assembled bass was sent to Marty Bell for finishing. Original tuners were replaced with Hipshot Ultra Lite tuners. A new white pickguard and Dunlop strap buttons were also added. This is not an actual Stingray, but it's components are all Music Man, and with the new body and finish it's lighter than its namesake and it looks like it cost at least as much. Hold it, play it, listen to it, and it's got the unmistakable sound of an Ernie Ball Music Man bass.

and

The original tuner holes were filled and then clear sprayed when the rest of the bass was refinished. The holes are there but they don't photogragh easily and they're not very noticeable. BTW, I do have the original Ernie Ball serial number tag, and it's now on the back of the headstock. It had been removed for finishing and hadn't been put back on yet when these pics were taken.

Seems like it was/is a very good bass, a nicely modded EBMM,
originally changing hands at an attractive price ... but then a
new seller added some unnecessary deception to the flow ....
