Thinking of replacing the stock volume pot on my Axis Super Sport and was wondering if anyone knows if it is a 500K volume pot and if I should be getting the short or long split shaft option?

Looking for a more usable taper as my current one seems to have a very small range before volume goes completely gone. Was wondering if that's normal?

Thanks.

One thing you can try before replacing the pot is adding a treble bleed. In particular, one with a resistor and capacitor in parallel. That will smooth out the taper some and keep it from getting muddy.

If you have any questions about what values to use check out this article written by our very own Dr Kev. It's everything you ever wanted to know about treble bleeds but were afraid to ask.

Thanks guys. Am also curious what kind of wiring the Axis Super Sport has?

I'm not exactly technical but would it be equivalent to the 50s or Modern wiring?

When switching pots, I usually buy several at a time (they’re cheap!) and measure resistance across the lugs as there can be a fairly wide range, even with Bournes or CTS. 5% tolerance can go from 475K to 525K on and 500K pot.

If you want to slightly brighten up the guitar, you can install the higher value, or the lower value if I want to take away some highs. There are also 550K pots available if you really want to open up the top end.

More importantly, have fun experimenting!

I've been toying for some time now with swapping the lone volume knob on my Axis to a push-push or push-pull, and rewiring so I can use it to split the coils (only having three pickup options seems so limiting).

Any suggestions for the pot I should use?
