What would YOU like to see in the BFR offerings that were recently announced at Winter NAMM 2007?

The current offering is that the guitars will ship with a quilted or flamed maple top, luck of the draw (noting that they will all be '10' grade tops).

Some of us have expressed an interest in being able to specifiy quilt or flame top, which will likely cause unacceptable backlog problems.

Therefore, some alternate ideas have been put forth, such as making all the BFR Luke's with flame tops, and all the BFR Petrucci's with quilt tops, etc.

This is a part 1 of a 2-part poll to gauge interest in the various possibilities.

With all due respect, Norrin.. this poll was Big Poppa's idea!

It was born from my thread about "Any chance of choosing BFR top" or some such title, which was purely a question looking for a yes/no answer so that I could decide whether or not I was ordering a JP BFR.

Are BFR tops really just luck of the draw?

I find it hard to believe that a guitar that costs THAT much you have no say in the top.

I may have to reconsider my order...

(I want quilt btw)

My thoughts exactly, it's alot of money to spend, and I know I wouldn't be too happy getting sometihng I didn't really want.

Jeffrey,

While they are all '10' tops for sure, you are not guaranteed quilt or flame.. therefore you need to vote in this poll! :D

I understand the economics involved, not to mention the availability of the woods themselves.
EBMM has to maintain its stance that it's the luck of the draw for production reasons, or charge a hefty premium for the ability to have the choice. The second option of course would just have to wait longer!

If people have the ability to choose then they will always want more options.
If there are no options, then everything is simple!
Either way, not everyone will be happy.
EBMM has to do whichever is most feasible.

fogman,

At this point we've already ruled out the 'choose your top' option. We're simply exploring other few-option ideas, like making all the JPs in quilt etc and so forth. Something like that actually makes one less 'possibility' (notice I didn't say 'choice') for the BFR runs.

So, by taking away the 'possibility' of a flame-top BFR Petrucci, it actually simplifies things somewhat.. as long as they factory can obtain enough quilted maple to fill the orders. And this way, at least you know what kind of top you're getting.. the ONLY one! ;)

So far ..and I realize we have a miniscule data set.. it seems that most JP folks are into quilts.. whereas there's a little more sway amongst the Luke folks.

I chose luck of the draw. It adds the element of surprise to your order. Plus I like both quilts and flames, with a slight preferance for flames...
