Those are great. I'm not sure which cracks me up more--that you said to yourself, "Gee, I think I'm going to make a replica of my SR5, but twice as big."

Or, you know, that you actually followed through with it.

The only thing like that I've done was a hookah that had the bottom of a remote control tank attached so you could drive it around the room. And, that was in college....

Thanks for the pics.

In the words of a candy commercial, simply...amahzing (with a smooth accent of course). Awesome job!

Hey guys, thanks for all the compliments! It really was a lot of fun to make. It took us about a week to finish it. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but all the detail is actually cut into the wood. The bridge took a LONG time to carve, and carving the edge of that pickguard wasn't easy. It's hard to freehand something that big and make a nice smooth curve that's consistent all the way around.

To Bassmonkee...Yeah, it's pretty corny, but we had so much fun doing this one, we did another little project right after this one. You ever seen a Shure Beta58 wireless mic that's 6'-8" tall? Got one. Cutting the detail in the ball of a mic is TEDIOUS! The painting of the ball on the mic is so realistic that you would swear it's actually round. The wife's good at that kind of stuff. The mic has the digital display and everything. It's neat.

Anyway, glad everyone is getting a kick out of this. It's a fun conversation piece to have in the shop. I'll work on getting a pic of me licking it. I forgot about that little "initiation picture". It's been a while since I was lurking here.

So pardon me if I'm stomping on the party here...

But this just looked like a mediocre photoshop job... is this really real?

Sir, I can assure you that it's real. Now, it's not a real guitar. It's a wood cutout, carved and painted to match my SR5. The whole thing is only 3/4" thick, with a 1x4" brace running the length of the back to add support to the neck.

It's actually a nice compliment to me that you think it's a photoshop. My work must be pretty realistic!

I took a couple pics of it last night, too. One with it hanging on the wall, and another with my wife standing beside it holding it up. I'll try to post a quick picture of that one later tonight.
