here are some of my most figured necks, they are from 89-93's, love the sound of the new H/H stingrays but they dont come with necks like these, why ?

I love those old gloss necks, they just feel most comfortable in my hands. And I love the way the neck gloss ambers down and really shows off the figuring.

Extremely nice. That pile of wood gave me a woody! And I agree, new MMs should use maple like that.

This has been discussed before, BP said that figured maple was relatively easy to find at normal maple prices back in the 80s and early 90s, now it's very hard to find and quite expensive.

Gorgeous bunch of necks there!

yea i noticed that late 80's early 90's have the nicest birdseye, or flamed necks, i dont see that wood used any necks, anymore althought it is used on the 20th anniv, or family reserve bodies. i wonder why not on the necks, though???

The other thing about those figured maple necks is a reputation for instability. I've had quite a few over the years and never had a single problem but I've seen lots of people theorizing that the figure made them less stable. Whether the claim is realistic or not, putting figured woods on the body shouldn't scare anyone!
