Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time! I have been very busy working to pay the bills as well as working on a Gospel/Jazz/Funk CD with the church band (using my 'Ray exclusively). It should be nearly done by the giving of Thanks.

Anyhow, pretty soon---I feel it coming--- I am going to be looking to add another classic standard to my collection. Resisting the temptation to order a 'Ray in another color, I will soon to be looking forward to ordering a Natural StingRay 4-string, maple neck with black pickguard and 2-band EQ. However, I have never played a new 2-bander before. Even my current 4-string has a 3-band EQ.

Any comments on the difference between the 2-band and 3-band EQs?

Thanks.

Love,

Good to see you back around here Mr Light.

There's a few of us 2 band followers. We just simply love the sound, to me it's just a little meatier, less sizzly.

Just got this one...

for me, a 2band ray sounds a little bit warmer. i think the frequences spread a bit wider than on a 3band.

@caca de kick
i love your bass, this blue (sparkle) burst looks really great with a maple fingerboard.

Bass Player, March 2007

Mr. Light, did you get a write up in Bass Player a few months ago?

As a matter of fact, yes! I was in the "Introduce Yourself" section in the March 2007 edition featuring John Pattitucci on the cover. I was sporting my 'Ray along with the "SWR" hat that I no longer own.

Excuse the terminology...but I am drumming up an old thread.

So there is no way to get the 3 band EQ to sound like it's 2 band counterpart?

The two band on my sub 5s did not compare to the three band on my stingray. So I sold both of them. More flexible with 3.

I just picked up a 2 bander and think it sounds more organic (as compared to my SR5). The output is lower (at least with my setups), but I agree, it is in the same family. One thing to note is that the 2 band EQ has no centre detents - boost only.
