Job I have:
Required to carry a firearm and pray I never have to use it.

Job I want:
Required to carry a bass and pray I use it everyday.

I think it's fair to say that Koogs and I share some common history and yet have ended up on relatively opposite ends of the spectrum. (He might argue that we have not.) While I am - or was - a thrice certified "High Risk Marksmanship" rangemaster and do maintain my skills as best I can, I'm not exactly what you'd call a gun nut. I can't anymore quote you muzzle velocity and weight and so on regarding any given military firearm. I saw them and still see them as tools, not quite as sexy as, say, basses.

I respect those who take the time to become proficient. I respect those who carry firearms due to professional requirements. Mostly, though, I like basses.

Here endeth the lesson.

I think we have in terms of owning a weapon. I have several and you know the reasons. I have gotten out of the "business" per se and sold off some of my weapons. I have kept some as I still like to make sure my skills are up to par. I do carry at all time. I guess I can't get that out of my system...hahah...but...I would rather carry a guitar/bass. I prefer consulting than field work at this point in my life. Pops was a big reason for that decision as well as my wife. Life is great and I am enjoying it.

Ah, you can only play one bass at a time...But with the right gun you could kill 10 people at once...you've got to think about what you get for your money...

10? A pocket knife would work for that! And those 10 would have to be threatening my family.

Just think about how many songs you already killed with that one bass :p

Watch out for the irish hippie with the gun

When my wife and I were holidaying in Ireland some years ago we came upon an almost surreal place - a petrol (gas) station selling petrol (naturally), coal, whiskey, guinness, shotguns and shotgun shells - just imagine the fun you could have - completely leathered on booze in a car with a loaded shotgun trying to get a fire going! Parked across the road was a van carrying the legend Sean Flood, plumber and driving past was a pickup emblazoned with Paddy Wall, Builder. There were no drugs involved at all! There's a song in there somewhere - I challenge all comers to construct a blues using all the above elements!

To clarify... I have absolutely nothing against the NRA or those who choose to own guns. I am just basically the last person on Earth the NRA is probably expected on their mailing list. Its kinda like running... I don't "run"... if you see me running.. follow... because there -IS- something chasing me that is most likely hungry and doesn't mind their "human" extra-rare.

Me with a gun is a bad idea... :) But keep in mind EVERY person on my team at work owns at least one gun. I just love the little ironys of life, and this was perhaps the largest "fail" of direct marketing history. It made me smile though.

BP, I still have limited sight, just legally blind. I basically only have one of the two types of nerve endings on the retina. Everybody's got something to overcome... I consider myself very lucky, it is non-degenerative, and there are so many other things out there that need far greater attention. My daughter was born at 26 weeks and is three now, perfectly healthy thank God because of ongoing research supported by organizations like the March of Dimes... what your family went through with Casey and what you support through the CLBF... these are examples of things that deserve real attention., among many many more.

If you are curious here is the best description on the internet of my condition WHAT IS ACHROMATOPSIA?

My cousin's, husband's father was legally blind and ran a very successful deli/cafeteria in a court-house building. Great man, HUGE ELVIS fan...I believe it was called the Graceland Cafeteria. He had limited vision...couldn't drive at night, and could see BUT had very thick lenses.

bovinehost's,

I do have to admit the temptation has been there to sell off a firearm or two in order to buy some more Music Man basses. I keep all of the different basses that everyone has and it makes me want more...

I have firearms that I wouldn't sell for any reason. I also have some that could easily be replaced and are always up for trade, possible sale, etc. Within my cirlce of friends we are always wheeling and dealing firearms, watches, custom knives and other items of interest. I actually sold a really nice paintball gun that was collecting dust to almost completely fund my recent Stingray Classic purchase. Out with the old, in with the new :p

Wow, this thread would have gone south in 2 minutes on the other side. I bought a C02 toy pistol at Cabela's around 4 years ago (while I was getting gunstock oil, go figure!), maybe that's why I get those same letters in the mail.

There are plenty of people who want nothing to do with guns, there are plenty of people that aren't bothered by guns, and there are plenty of people who love guns. The same can be said for musicians - some people play bass, some people play bass and guitar, some people play guitar.

Different strokes for different folks, it's all good to me!

Just for the record, I despise guns. Have never owned one and never will. But I am not going to force my views on anyone.

But I will get passionate about EBMM guitars and basses! These are the only weapons I need!

Use an EBMM as a weapon? Never, they are meant for music for my heart and soul.

I've been a member of the NRA for a while now. I enjoy shooting guns, and I enjoy hunting. My uncle is one of the biggest gun collectors in South Carolina, so I have shot more different types of guns that the average person by a substantial amount. My girlfriend used to be very anti-gun until recently when I explained to her the importance of home protection, and made her watch the local news nightly. I can respect anyones views on firearms, whether you like them or not, and I hope none of you are ever put into a situation that forces you to use your firearm, or wish you had one. And for the record, my favorite weapon of choice is actually the compound bow. Archery is an awesome and addicting sport. If you've never gave any thought to shooting a bow, I highly suggest you try it. Even if you never plan on bow hunting, target shooting with some friends can be just as enjoyable as a round of golf. Now if I can only get my golf game up to par with my shooting skills, I might be pretty deadly on the golf course. Seems like the only thing I can hit lately are trees, sand, and water...

Ditto...I feel your pain. But I recently got a new set of Adams game improvement clubs...made a big difference!
