YOu have heard it from master luthier jack.....

Please dont file it as filing remioves material and your problem seems to be that there is already not enough nut material (I always wanted to say nutmaterial)

As usual, very useful (and somewhat hilarious) comments:)

I'm all for the superglue way of raising a slot, but I don't think a lot of windings will do much good. More than one turn, sure, but with the desing of the peg, a lot of turns will not do much extra good imho.

Anyhoo, what are you guys doing, playing open g strings anyway? :p

he means the slot is too big for the string put into it ;)

superglue wears out so the best thing would be to get a new nut, either made by a competent tech or a new one from eb.. )

and to highjack this thread too:
we boys behind counters in gittar shops love g-string questions.. when girls ask em :D

i noticed the string was wound around the peg bottom to top so i unwound it and made it go top to bottom. i did notice some improvement. i put a little piece of cotton back under the string and the buzzing is virtually gone. i actually gave someone a call at EB and he said they usually just fill the nut a little bit with superglue and file it down so the string sits properly when they do repairs so if need be i will try that out
