Guys,

I just had to post this and get it off my chest and to also assure you all that if you get to thinking that your singer sucks and it gets you down, then you can take comfort in the certain knowledge that there is a more stupid specimen out there, because our band has got the world's stupidest human being for a lead singer!

This guy can never turn up less than an hour late to every gig we do, he only ever has to set up his own mike stand and monitor and a set of stage lights and every week we are still waiting for him to plug his mike in for a sound check.

So, last Saturday we were to play a wedding for people who were friends of the singer and the hotel was no more than 500 metres from his house. What could go wrong? - He even managed to turn up only 15 minutes late which was a miracle.

HOWEVER, at 9:30 when we were supposed to get on stage in readiness to begin the first set, the singer is seen frantically tallking to the DJ. He has only just remembered that the bride and groom gave him a CD for us to play their "First Dance" from and he has left it at home. The DJ obviously does not have a copy of it because at 9:40 the singer has disappeared and there is no sign of him.

By 10pm he is still not back and many people are getting impatient for the dancing to start. At 10:10 we ring him and he says he is already on his way back - baring in mind that he only lives 500 metres away.

He arrives back at 10:25 with the CD which he hands to the DJ. The DJ puts the song on and when the bride starts dancing she starts wagging her finger at our singer - not because of how late it was - but apparently she had made a special request to him months ago for the band to actually learn it and play it live - He didn't even mention this to us and didn't tell her he didn't want to learn it as it was a female vocal - and these are supposed to be good friends of his!!!

It turns out that when he got home he turned the house upside down and could not find the CD they had given to him. He then remembered he had a CD burner and lucklily for him last week he had a broadband connection put in, so he spent his time searching for the MP3 and then burned a copy of the song which is why it took him so long to get back to the hotel.

Rest assured that will be the last time that we EVER allow him to have any involvement in organising a wedding even if it is to be his own!!!

Late first time = Severe Verbal Thrashing

Late second time = Severe Physical Thrashing

Late third time = Swift Replacement

(Needless to say I don't have much tolerance for musicians who do not make punctuality a priority)

I wouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior, personally. He'd have been fired long before that, and if not, he certainly would have been fired after the wedding. He sounds like an unreliable jackass.

Unless he's financing the band or keeping you guys in free Newkie-Brown (sp?) [Newcastle Brown Ale] I'd have to concur with the immediate termination idea. ;)

It's "nookie broon" or and you have to say "why aye" a lot when you're "doon tha toon".

The singer's actions makes your entire band appear unprofessional. I would be embarrassed and likely very angry if I was put in that uncomfortable position by a member of my band. +1 for getting a new singer.

Kick him OUT!!!!

Get some balls and tell the fool to GET OUT!!!!!!

It's hard enough to get ahead in the entertainment world without having to suffer additional setbacks due to an inconciderate butthead singer or whoever is not doing thier part in the band. Don't waste more time replace his a$$!!!!

Dock his pay every time he is late. For as late as he was for that gig was he would get nothing. The ones of you that were there should split his pay. Or refund to the folks you played for with apology.

Start going to karaoke bars and look for a new singer. That's how we found ours and he was just voted best in the area. Good luck.

That has been discussed amongst the compliant members of the band in the past - maybe it IS time to envoke it!

Thanks for all your comments of support. However, we are a VERY regular gigging band and it would be difficult to change an engine in mid flight if you get my drift. Homever something does need to be done I agree.

Put that plane in glide mode, and change the engine. It's not going to make the trip. Better to do it now than when you'r closer to the ground.
